St. Matthew's Episcopal Church

About Us

To know Christ and to make Him known

St. Matthew's is a growing Episcopal parish in Bedford, NY, located on 65 acres of woodland, Glebe and Churchyard. We pride ourselves in our music, our Church School, our clergy and our parish activities and Outreach.

The main Church building was consecrated in 1810 and a new Children's Chapel was consecrated in 2012. We also have a small Chapel-in-the-Woods amid towering Hemlocks where we have services during the fair weather months.

St. Matthew's School is a pre-school operated by St. Matthew's for 2s, 3s and 4s.

What to Expect

What are services like?
St. Matthew's services are characterized as "low" Episcopal. Sermons are scripture-based and relevant. Our organist is Anthony Newman, who is a world-renowned organist and harpsichord player. The choir’s musical repertoire includes works by Bach, Beethoven, Gounod, Handel, Mozart, Purcell, and many others. The professional quality of the singing augments the worship service substantially each Sunday and attracts many new parishioners to our Church.

What is the community like?
Bedford is a pastoral town with many horse trails, dirt roads and maintains a "small town" feel to it.

What if I'm not a Christian?
All are welcome.
