About Us

A Traditional Anglican Parish Proclaming the Truth - Jesus Christ is Lord!

St. John’s is a diverse group of people assembled in Jesus’ name. We seek to glorify Him in our worship, to be changed and strengthened by His grace to live lives of sanctity, and to serve others in His Name.

Since 1858, the people of St. John’s have believed that our Faith has been defined for us in God’s revealed Word, the Bible.

What to Expect

What are services like?
We use the 1928 American Book of Common Prayer as our standard for community worship. We believe the old adage what we pray is what we believe. Since the 1928 Prayer Book is the last American Prayer Book to uphold the 450+ year tradition of Anglican Prayer Book theology, language, and form, we know that our worship is formed by ‘right doctrine’ that has been inspired by Scripture, and has been sanctified over the centuries by the prayerful use of the faithful. This worship keeps us focused on the gift of God in his Son Jesus Christ, and our need to continually turn to Him for the Grace necessary to live lives worthy of our calling.

What is the community like?
The word “Parish” comes from a time when there was only one Church to serve a geographic area. Today, we have a number of choices as to where we worship. If St. John’s boundaries were defined by where our parishioners live, they would stretch beyond Ann Arbor, Flint, Port Huron, Toledo and even into Canada. Most of our parish family finds their Sunday travel to our services a relatively easy trip, but some are quite willing to travel upwards of an hour to worship at St John’s and experience the traditional Prayer Book worship, Bible based inspirational teaching, and a world-class traditional musical program that glorifies God. At St. John’s we like to be with each other, and to do things together! Whether it is a potluck after services, a talent show on Shrove Tuesday, a pancake breakfast before the Thanksgiving Day Parade (which passes in front of St. John’s), or a parishioner organized outing at a local event, our social fellowship is lively and enjoyable. The food is always great, and we treasure the opportunity to get to know one another in a casual, relaxed setting.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Regardless of your current belliefs, we are sure you will find a friendly, welcoming parish family at St. John’s that is seeking to grow in grace, fellowship and service, and love their neighbors..
