About Us

Honoring our history, serving Christ Now

Our history traces to the establishment of the English colonies at Jamestown. Our current sanctuary, the 3rd on this site, was constructed in 1755 and the parish was established in 1642.

Over the years our church has received modifications including renewed interior wood paneling installed in the 1880s by William Channing Whitney. Yet with all the modifications our church stands as a tribute to the 21-inch- thick brickwork that was laid in a Flemish bond pattern and 18-inch square English limestone in the aisle.

Our church has been hallowed through the years serving as a sanctuary during the early colonial years while tending to the poor and needy; ministering to soldiers during 2 wars fought nearby; and nearly 4 centuries of community involvement.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Our services are intimate, due in the most part to our physical size and layout. Music is an integral part of our worship - we sing the psalm every week and routinely sing other portions of the liturgy. We also have routine offerings from our choir - a blessing in our intimate setting. Preaching is more conversational and looks for practical applications of scripture in a modern context.

What is the community like?
Our community is welcoming and hospitable. Our families reach out to the community in many ways working with the homeless and underprivileged in Suffolk.

What if I'm not a Christian?
All people are welcome in worship and we intentionally use language that includes those outside the Episcopal tradition and those who follow other faith traditions. You will be engaged as a person not simply as a potential convert to Christianity.
