Who We Are

3-things to take from our tagline. . .

1. We are a Church. We understand “church” not as an organization, institution, or place, but the gathering of people following Jesus. We are Jesus’ hands, feet, and voice of grace in this world.

2. We have a Really Big Door. Everyone is welcome here. Everyone is a part of the whole. The chorus of a song written by a member, says it best:

Barf Bag Boogie — Lyrics by Tommy Zerse © 2004 Music by Tommy Zerse and Karmann Peters © 2004
We don’t see the same, we don’t sound the same.
We don’t talk, or walk, or get around the same.
We don’t smell the same, we don’t look the same
But we can all rise up and live the same.
(offering grace as followers of Jesus)

3. The Really Big Door swings both ways. Everyone is welcome, but no one is obligated to stay. There are other churches that might be more fitting for you. Simply ask and we can hopefully help you find the right one. What we want most is that every person knows the story of Jesus, and learns to live the story as their own.

Spirit Garage’s Mission & Core Values
The following statement of mission and core values was developed to help us better understand and articulate the vision and purpose that God has placed within Spirit Garage. The mission and the values help guide us in our life as a community and serve to inspire us to new action, as well as help us to remain consistent with our values, as we grow and change over time.

Mission Statement
By the same grace that Jesus has given you, seek to love God with all of your body, spirit, and mind, and to share God’s love with all people.

Matthew 22:36-40
“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” [Jesus] said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

Leadership View all

Rob Norris-Weber

Faith Story Child of God, Husband, Father, Pastor, Friend, and Neighbor. I grew up in the church, but did not get caught by the Spirit until I attended Bible Camp. Went to camp as a camper, staff member, and as a youth leader for 27 consecutive summers. Spirit Garage is the closest experience to the amazing community camp creates. The good part is that it is more than a week long - 14 years and counting; thankful to be a part of the really big door! A number of Bible passages speak to me. (My paraphrases) Genesis 12:1-3 = We are Blessed to be a Blessing! Isaiah 43 = God knows us by name and we are precious, honored and loved. Psalm 139 = Where can we flee from God's Spirit? If I go up to the heavens you are there. If I go down to Sheol even there you will find me. John 10:10 = Jesus declared, "The thief comes to kill, steal, and destroy, but I came that you may have life in abundance." Acts 1:8 = Jesus said, "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” - - Note Jesus called us to be "Witnesses" not the judge or the jury! Matthew 12:30 = It comes down to simply this, Love God and all people. Some of my recreational activities include: Running Grandma's Marathon every year since 1999. Playing basketball. Sailing in the Apostle Islands. Coaching my sons' soccer and baseball teams. Connecting with neighbors. And most of all I love being a dad and husband.
