Who We Are

A community of people on mission for God to love and serve our city 2 Jesus

In 2013, a few families started having the uneasy feeling that there must be more to church than just attending services and events at a building each week. There must be more to give our time, money, and talents toward than keeping these services and events going. There must be more to evangelism than inviting people to church services and events that they’re not interested in. There must be more to discipleship than attending a class.

Rather than ignore those feelings and go on with church as usual, they decided to challenge the status quo and take the risk of being the Church that God was calling them to be. This step of faith resulted in starting a very “missionally” minded church called SoulHaven. What does it mean to be “missional”? I’m glad you asked.

John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” Our God is a God on mission. He came to us; he became one of us. And now he calls us to do the same for those around us who need Christ. In John 20:21 Jesus said, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” Jesus has sent us on mission, and this mission is known as the Great Commission from Matt. 28, to “go and make disciples”.

That’s what SoulHaven is all about. We’re all about training our people to be missionaries to their neighbors, co-workers, and classmates, be the Good News to them, and do the work of disciple making in the everyday rhythms of life. We are empowering and equipping the people of the church to do the work of ministry and releasing them to make disciples with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. And the vehicle we use to accomplish this goal is what we call “Missional Communities”.

Missional Communities are groups of 20-40 people who function like an extended family and are on mission together to make disciples in a specific area or among a specific group of people. We also regularly bring all these Missional Communities together for corporate worship, but these gatherings feel more like a family reunion than a boring program.

Our goal is to continue equipping and empowering regular people like you to make disciples who make disciples, multiply new Missional Communities that will incarnate the good news to the people around them, and plant new churches that will expand the Kingdom of God throughout northern Georgia and around the world.

06:30pm - On the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month, we bring our Missional Communities together for a worship gathering at the Seniors Center in Hamilton Crossing Park. On off weeks, our Missional Communities meet in various ways. See website or Facebook page for details.

What to Expect

What are services like?
At SoulHaven, gathering for corporate worship is important, but it will never be our main focus. Being on mission to make disciples out in our community will always be our focus. So our corporate worship is more like a family reunion where all our Missional Communities gather back together to celebrate what God has been doing through them all week long and to be equipped and inspired to go out and continue to live on mission for God the rest of the week. We don’t gather for worship every week, so send us a message or check our Facebook feed to find out the schedule. We don’t believe the “church” is a building or an event that you attend; we are the Church so church should happen all over the city at any time. Practically that means that some weeks we are serving out in our community together rather than gathering for a worship service. Sometimes we are spending a day at the lake or a park and inviting our friends who need Jesus. And sometimes we are meeting separately all across the county in our Missional Communities.

What is the community like?
Everyone longs for a family. One reason for that is because God is family (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), and he places that desire in our hearts. At SoulHaven, we want everyone to be a part of an extended family, which we call a “Missional Community”. This isn’t just a Bible study or a social group; this is where you find people who could eventually become closer to you than your biological family, a group of people who love and care for one another, grow together, live life together, and go on mission together to make disciples of the people around them. No matter who you are – single, married, child, senior – you are all a vital part of this extended family that God has adopted us into, and it’s in this community of believers that the world gets to see the fullest expression of his love. “’Who are my mother and my brothers?’ Jesus asked. Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.’” (Mark 3:33-35) “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12) “All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they conintued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:44-47)

What if I'm not a Christian?
Imagine a church… --where the focus isn’t attending an event at a church building, but being the church to our neighbors, co-workers, classmates, and families. --where consumerism is discarded in favor of sacrifice, service, and love. --that tries to give at least 50% of what we have to the poor, needy, and hurting in our community and around the world. --that embodies grace, love, and mercy to sinners rather than judgment, hate, and indifference. --where your outward appearance doesn’t matter, but your heart and your actions do. --where everyone is accepted no matter what race, religion, or sexual preference you happen to have because we are all equal when it comes to our sin and our need for God’s grace. --that feels more like an extended family than a weekly event. If that sounds like the kind of church that you’d like to be a part of, then SoulHaven may be the place for you. We are not perfect, but we are striving each day to become a little more like Jesus so we can show others how amazing he is. You don’t have to be perfect to show up either. We know that we are all broken, messed up sinners and the only way to find healing and forgiveness is in the arms of Jesus.
