What to Expect

What are services like?
Connect to Christ and to Christian brothers and sisters through the historic liturgies of the Church. Exercise your hymnal skills, and warm up your voice for congregational singing. 1st & 3rd (& 5th) Sundays Holy Communion is served. 2nd and 4th Sundays a service of prayer (like Matins) is used. The pastor usually preaches from one or more of the appointed Bible readings from a 3-year-lectionary. St. John's practices closed communion, and blesses children and catechumens (learners) at the altar rail.

What is the community like?
St. John's Lutheran Church is close to Downtown Salt Lake City, across the street from the "happeningest" Park in the City, Liberty Park. St. John's serves our community in a variety of ways: ...through Christ-centered, Gospel focused preaching and teaching; ...through our Lutheran Early Childhood Center with Preschool and Kindergarten; ...through our Sudanese Ministry (worshipping in a blended language (Nuer & English) service at 12:30 every Sunday afternoon); ...through hosting various community groups (a community choir, an A.A. Group); ...etc.

What if I'm not a Christian?
No problem. We would like to welcome you to St. John's. Please visit and introduce yourself to individual congregation members and the pastor. We would love to get to know you, and perhaps, by God's Spirit, working through His Word, encourage you, and perhaps assist in you becoming better acquainted with the Lord. We are a community of forgiven sinners and want to always be ready to welcome one more.
