About Us

Wherever you are in your journey of faith, you are welcome here.

St Gabriel's is a suburban Episcopal church and school located in the Bethany area of NW Portland near Beaverton and Hillsboro. We are a community of people committed to sharing the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ and to help each other on our spiritual journey with God. Our church offers both creative and traditional approaches to worship. We have a vibrant music ministry, educational programs for children, youth and adults, community and world outreach opportunities, healing and prayer shawl ministries, and fellowship gatherings. We have many young families but we embrace multigenerationalism. The church also hosts The Yew Life Center which offers programs" to support individuals towards living a centered life" including a community garden, a public labyrinth, concerts and recitals, support groups, classes and counseling. St. Gabriel School offers Reggio Emilia-influenced preschool and prekindergarten classes.

What to Expect

What are services like?
St. Gabriel's 8:00 am Sunday service is a quieter traditional Episcopal Rite I service from the Book of Common Prayer with sermon and without music. We follow the Revised Common Lectionary scripture readings. Communion is offered and all ages are welcome. St. Gabriel's 10:00 am Sunday is a music-filled Episcopal Rite II service from the book of Common Prayer with sermon. Music may include traditional hymns with piano and organ, a choir, soloists, guest musicians, or a contemporary praise band. Communion is offered. Private healing prayers are available during the service. Children are welcome to join in age-appropriate church school during the service or sit in the worship space with their families. A nursery is available for children under 3 1/2 years. Youth sit in service with leaders or have class time. We have a coffee hour after both services to welcome newcomers and to foster fellowship. Special worship and fellowship celebrations are held on church holidays and special occasions. Please check our church website at www.stgabrielonline.org for dates and times.

What is the community like?
We are a creative, progressive and open-minded community of people drawn together to worship God. Our growing congregation includes people from NW Portland, the Bethany area, Beaverton, Hillsboro and nearby communities. We have many young families with children, but embrace people of all ages as members. We value multigenerational worship and friendships and encourage mentorship. We believe in the importance of good fellowship and offer frequent opportunities to get together and celebrate church holidays or other special occasions with good food, music and conversation. We believe in the importance of outreach and social justice and work together to share our time, talent and treasure with our community and the world. We offer adult education and our vital family ministry includes four church school classrooms, middle and high school youth group, art, music and drama, service projects, vacation Bible school and Communion classes. We have many active ministries that offer opportunities for everyone to get involved in worship, support or outreach.

What if I'm not a Christian?
St. Gabriel's welcomes everyone, whoever you are or wherever you are on your journey of faith. We invite you to worship with us and see if the Holy Spirit and our community move you to learn more about our Episcopal traditions and way of being in the world.
