From 2013 to 2016 I lived two miles away from the church and for the first time in my 75 years, I found a home church. It has a strong representation of all major age groups, children, preteen, teen early adult, middle and late adult. Most of the church goers have lived on the wooded land for generations and have a rural value system. When we moved several members moved us to the Church Points area, a huge commitment solely to help a struggling neighbor . I have no words to express what this meant. We had to leave our beautiful homesite in the piney woods so my wife could be closer to her struggling family and thus be able to support them in obtaining employment, emotional and other support.
I thought I could replacement my church, friendship with others my age and younger, help and be helped by neighbors. No church comes close to my deep sorrow. They are like a sterile desert. I am by far the oldest in my neighborhood, my neighbors are urban and brought their urban values with them. Land is treeless and crowded.
The Pleasant Hill church was the backbone of my life and represents a huge hole in my life that I have not been able to replace with something of value.
I pray to God daily that He returns me to my real home on Homestead Drive.
