What to Expect

What are services like?
Our services are a unique blending of the historical and the meaningful. We are liturgical, with a tightly ordered service of worship with responsive readings culminating with the Lord's Supper each week . . . yet we are meaningful in that we explain what we do and why, and it is never just a going through the motions. Our music and singing is very faithful, yet powerfully current and meaningful.

What is the community like?
We are a relatively diverse group made up mainly of people who are excited about the city of Detroit, and being Gospel-centered in what we believe, but also in how we live and serve in the city. Our theme comes from Jeremiah 29 when God directed the Israelites how to live as exiles in the city to which he has sent them. Verse 7 says: [7] But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. We believe in the renaissance that is occurring in Detroit, but moreover we believe the Gospel taught and lived out is foundational to any real and lasting change!

What if I'm not a Christian?
This church is not strictly for the already committed, but also for the curious and even the cynical. We believe the Gospel is so powerful and coherent when looked at honestly and openly that we are never threatened by those who are not there yet. Non-chrsitians are definitely welcome. And I long for opportunities to visit with those who have questions. Pastor Dan

The preaching is solid. Pastors Dan Millward and Jon Saunders do not shy away from tough issues or tough questions. The congregation is a wonderful mix of young new families, singles, and seasoned believers. The liturgy is printed out weekly, encouraging active participation in the worship. Refreshments after services allows for time to meet new people. We've been members about two years.
