What people say about Locust Hill United Methodist Church

  • Locust Hill UM Church had the world's smallest cross as its steeple. They sang some original gospel songs from Blue Ridge mountain heritage. We had wonderful VBS in the summer, got a new organ. Laurel enjoyed playing piano there. They liked " The Little Drummer Boy." They made delicious apple butter to pay their expenses. I enjoyed fishing. Bill Moore and I ate our catches. The first time I went with dear Bill, I got my hook stuck in a tree. Bill told me, "Now Dr. Jim, there ain't no fish in them trees." The men taught me how to shoot rifles and pistols. Each man killed a deer for meat for their families. Bill had heart surgery in Charlottesville. He enjoyed going with me to visit members who were in far away hospitals like Charlottesville and Winston-Salem, North Carolina. We watched the NASCAR races and the College World Series won by LSU. Bill gave me a baseball that he hit for a home run for his factory team. I still have it. Newcomers can expect a warm welcome and a great example of Blue Ridge culture and lots of caring and love.
