What to Expect

What are services like?
Our Worship Service begins informally at 10:00 a.m. with the playing of praise videos on our new video and sound system. At 10:15 we begin our service with a mixture of songs old and new. You can expect a Children's Time after which the younger children may be excused to the Nursery and children in grades 1st - 6th may partake in the Children's Fellowship Time. At Laurel UMC we offer an open Communion on the first Sunday of every month.

What if I'm not a Christian?
As a whole, the United Methodist Church ascribes to an "Open hearts. Open minds. Open door." mission statement. We invite you to bring your doubts, your questions...To bring yourself. We welcome you.

I have been a part of the Laurel UMC, literally, my entire life. I was baptized, confirmed, married, and my daughter has been baptized here as well. My entire family still belongs to this church (in fact, one pew can no longer contain us!). At 31 years old, I love that I am a part of a church with such a rich history, but more than that a church family whom I hold very dear. I love our building: big, grey stones with gorgeous stain-glass windows. I love our Sunday School wing and Fellowship Hall (and all of the wonderful little hide-y holes that the kids love so much, especially when they're here for Youth Group). I love that we have a choir who, more often than not, brings me to tears by their performances. And I really love that we sing the same song that was sung to me at my baptism, still to this day, during baptisms. "God Claims You" It's a beautiful lullaby that I still sing to my daughter who is 6 years old. Ultimately the thing I love most - and have always loved and appreciated - about being a United Methodist, is its mission of Open hearts. Open minds. Open doors. I am proud to belong to a church that is open-minded and willing to grow with the times.
