About Us

Living into the mystery of God's unfolding Story...

The Story is bigger than any of us, but each of us is part of it. In this messy, complicated and beautiful life, God meets us in our doubt and hope, our love and longing. At Lake Nokomis Presbyterian Church we believe that in Jesus Christ God joins the human story and embraces the world in love.

We’ve shaped how we “do church” around practices that open us to God and each other and help us engage the world. In Worship we explore our stories inside God’s own Story of wholeness and life. In Hospitality we participate in God’s radical welcome and honor each person’s story. And in the quiet of Sabbath rest we live into the Story by slowing down to reconnect with what matters.

What to Expect

What are services like?
In order to live fully into our ministry of worship, hospitality and sabbath, we do things a little differently with our weekend worship times. You can always check our calendar on the website for the latest info, but in general, here’s the pattern: 1st & 3rd Weekends: SUNDAYS – 10:30 AM. Gatherings of Worship & Celebration. Adult and children’s classes, 9AM. //// 2nd & 4th Weekends: SATURDAYS – 5:00 PM. Gatherings of Reflection & Renewal. Shared meal - 6:00 PM. No Sunday Service – Day of Rest. //// 5th Weekends: SUNDAYS – 4:30 PM. Gatherings of Sharing & Community. Shared meal at 4:30 PM, prayer at 5:15, then worship at St. Joseph’s Home for Children, 6 PM. //// At LNPC are a sabbath-keeping community, so we take two Sundays a month as a Day of Rest for the whole church community. Instead of coming together in worship, we spend the day connecting with loved ones or in solitude, playing, reading, relaxing, and otherwise encountering God in the holy ordinariness of "being" instead of "doing." On these second and fourth weekends, our Saturday evening service and meal help to usher us into sacred time. //// Whenever there is a 5th Sunday, our worship reminds us that church is not where we go, it is who we are. Instead of worshiping in our building, we go to the chapel at St. Joseph's Home for Children, (a nearby county emergency and long-term behavioral placement facility for kids), and we share worship with the children there. In this way we remember that we are the Body of Christ, in and for the world that God loves. ////

What is the community like?
A hodge-podge of young and old, short and tall, grumpy and cheerful, busy and relaxed, artists, retired farmers, budding community organizers, infants and six year olds, CEOs, FedEx drivers, seminary professors, homemakers and professional grandparents. We are believing doubters and doubting believers, long time deeply rooted folks and just passing through on our way to somewhere folks, who, for this time and place, are sharing faith and life together.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Whereever we are on our journey of faith - when we come together, God meets us.
