About Us

Jermain is a small community church where many local residents have been members for more than 50 years and their children and grandchildren who have remained close to home still belong to the church. The members are warm and friendly, welcoming all visitors and newcomers with enthusiasm and Christian love.

Sunday

Weekly sermon and prayers with Holy Communion every 1st Sunday.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Casual but reverent, our Pastor conducts a traditional worship service, with Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month. The preaching is Bible-based and timely, always giving members something to think about that relates to their lives. The singing is strong, led by our Pastor who plays the guitar on occasion and always makes it easier to sing as her strong voice and musical abilities make it easy to follow the music, even when it's new or unfamiliar. We follow the Methodist Hymnal services and Common Lectionary, but sometimes deviate for special occasions such as Veterans' Day or Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Mother's/Father's Day.

What is the community like?
Small and friendly, the members are always happy to welcome newcomers and visitors. It is made up mostly of local folks who grew up in the community and the church. Our 97-year old "matriarch" is still surrounded by family, with those who have moved away present regularly as frequent visitors. The community is faithful to the beliefs and practices of the United Methodist Church. The part-time Pastor is a semi-retired Episcopal priest, who serves with the blessings of her Bishop and ours. We are self-sustaining, maintaining and repairing our own property when possible and we take great pride in our building, now more than 200 years old and beginning to present some real challenges to our finances. But people are quick to volunteer either the expertise or funds necessary.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Everyone is welcome at Jermain and especially non-Christians. It is our Pastor's belief that "if the church cannot be present to people in their time of need, we cannot expect them to turn to the church for anything." Everyone is welcome to worship at Jermain, especially those seeking a church home or a spiritual awakening.
