Holy Spirit Catholic Church

About Us

A community that celebrates its Catholic faith in Carterville!

Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit is a parish community with a difference.
It is administered by a Roman Catholic Sister. As Parish Life Coordinator, Sr. Carol Karnitsky sees to the day-to-day running of the parish. Fr. Larry Lemay is the Sacramental Minister and attends to the pastoral and sacramental needs of the people. This parish is very participative. From its reinception as a parish in 1972, it has not had a resident priest and the parishioners are known for their welcoming spirit and their participation in parish life.

Our Services

What to Expect

What are services like?
We are a parish of the Roman Catholic diocese of Belleville, Illionis. Each Sunday at 9:00 am we participate in the Eucharistic liturgy called "the Mass". This worship ceremony consists in listening to the Word of God and participating in the remembrance of the Last Supper. The style of the ceremony does not vary but the content, the readings, the liturgical colors and the homily and music do change.

What is the community like?
We are friendly. There is one worship service per week end and those who would attend are welcome to stay for coffee and donuts and a Scripture study after Mass.

What if I'm not a Christian?
If you would like to become a Catholic Christian, there are adult learning experiences you can attend that will prepare you to be part of the Roman Catholic Church. Just ask the priest or the Parish Life Coordinator for more information.
