What are services like?
What will happen during worship: If you have attended other churches before, you might be suffering from “bulletin-itis.” To help any who might be afflicted, please know that worship will include prayer, welcome, and a relevant message with great music surrounding it all. Being a congregation that Makes a Difference: We hope you leave worship with more than a warm feeling and a song in your heart—we hope you leave different than how you came. We want to challenge everyone to live out the message you hear and to share Christ’s love with everyone you meet. We are not a religious congregation: Every time the Bible talks about being religious, it speaks about it as a negative. God doesn’t want us to have religion, but to have a relationship with Him. All are invited to receive communion during worship: We serve communion every Sunday at Greater Heights UMC – because it’s that important. What to wear: You can dress as you like. Some people like wearing their “Sunday best” and some like to wear shorts or jeans. We want you to be comfortable! Questions: Look for folks wearing an “Ask Me” lanyard if you need additional help when you arrive. What we want for you: To be a disciple of Christ who knows Him intimately and obeys Him joyfully! Warning: We do not encourage perfect people to attend GHUMC … they make us nervous! Children age birth through preschool are invited to our nursery, led by a paid, professional, and caring staff. Our greeters will be happy to escort your family. Elementary school children are invited to our Kids’ Church ministry during worship. For your safety, please register your children’s attendance in the lobby across from the auditorium entrance. You will be greeted by our awesome Kids’ Church team—feel free to ask them questions about the ministry. Children are also welcome to sit with their family during worship in the auditorium—whichever you are most comfortable with.

What is the community like?
Let me borrow your mind for three minutes and ask you to imagine a church: Imagine a church without a steeple, where the people are really the church. Imagine a church that isn’t defined by its building. Imagine a church that doesn’t see the unchurched and de-churched as the enemy but as the victim of the enemy. Imagine a church that preaches simple truths without dumbing them down. Imagine a church with a vibrant children’s ministry where the kids are falling head over heels in love with Jesus. Imagine a church where you never hear the phrase, “It’s never been done that way before.” Imagine a church offering the unconditional love of Christ without judgment, guilt, or shame (what we refer to as mad, crazy love). Imagine a church where the most important thing heard on Sunday morning doesn’t come from the pastor or the music but from what God says through it all. Imagine a church where “church” isn’t a place you go but something you are and do. Imagine a church that is unapologetic about preaching salvation through faith in Christ alone. Imagine a church that stands with those on margins of society. Imagine a church where Jesus is more than a “get-out-of-hell card.” Imagine a church that isn’t concerned about where you have been but where you are going. Imagine a church where worship isn’t described as traditional and contemporary but as relevant and passionate. When you imagine those things, you are getting a small glimpse of what Greater Heights United Methodist Church looks like.
