About Us

Inclusive + Affirming + Reconciling // No matter what, you're welcome here just as you are. Really.

Read aloud in worship every Sunday at 10am, we put these words into action as we seek to not only be a place of acceptance and affirmation for all of God’s children, but to also share the message out into the world of God’s undeniable and unconditional love for each and every person.

We at Glendale UMC want you to know that no matter: Where you’ve come from or where you are going; what you believe or what you may doubt; what you are feeling or just not feeling; what you have or don’t have; and no matter the color of your skin, who you love or how you identify – all of who you are is welcomed into this community of faith by a God who loves you and knows you by name.

Come as you are this Sunday - all are welcome at Glendale! For more info, check us out at GlendaleUMC.org or get in touch with our Lead Pastor, Rev. Steph Dodge at [email protected].

What to Expect

What are services like?
People check out Glendale for the first time every week in worship @ 10am. You will experience a laid back atmosphere, a message of hope + love, upbeat music and people with diverse faith journeys – old and young, raised in the church, new to church, those from other denominations and faith traditions to some who question it all – you name it. All are welcome at Glendale. #YallMeansAll

What is the community like?
Glendale is comprised of a diverse community and it is something that we love because it shows that Jesus' love has no bounds. We have families that have been attending the church for generations as well as those who have been away from the church for years - or entering it for the first time. You will find a safe, inclusive, and affirming community of faith at Glendale - we hope you will come + experience it with us sometime soon!

What if I'm not a Christian?
Not a problem. We welcome everyone. Our faith is a journey - each person at their own place as we grow in this life together. Come just as you are to Glendale.

Before finding Glendale, I stopped going to church and started doubting my faith, leaving Christianity altogether. I found Glendale at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement and started worshiping online and then in person. This is the first church that I truly feel welcome and at home.

It was important to me to find a church that was affirming and doing the work of being anti-racist. I wanted to be apart of a church where injustice in our world was spoken about and acted upon. After attending my first service, I know I had found my new church family. I am incredibly grateful for this safe space where I know that any and all are welcome.
  • John Lee
“I have found a spiritual home that I was missing and wasn’t sure I would ever find; a caring, nurturing environment; and a reestablishment of my Christian faith. Glendale is a vibrant environment that works hard to live up to the teachings of Jesus Christ, and it is a joy to have found it.”
  • Rachel and Jim Dolezal
We started watching Glendale’s services online and were refreshed by the inclusive & affirming theology. Soon after, we decided to get plugged in to a LifeGroup & that confirmed that Glendale was absolutely where we felt most at home.

After stepping away from church for several years, I was hoping to find an inclusive and affirming church that teaches God’s love for ALL people – regardless of who we are. I immediately felt connected & have made some amazing friends. I found Glendale when I needed it most and feel so lucky and proud to be a part of this church.

We have found a home in Glendale UMC, a place where every person is loved just for who they are. We are valued for who we are and where we are in our walks of faith – without judgment. We love the people we are meeting and look forward to continuing our journey of life here.

When we moved to Nashville in May 2021, we wanted to find a church that was INCLUSIVE of all of God’s children, not EXCLUSIVE. After visiting a few other United Methodist churches, we visited Glendale. We are excited to be a part of an inclusive church and to serve God through Glendale.

When I moved to Nashville 10 years ago, I struggled to find a church that supported my beliefs and open attitude. Glendale had been on my radar due to the messages of love and justice on the outdoor sign over the years. I knew from my first worship service that this place was going to be my spiritual home.
  • Jocelyn Haynes
It was important to us that we find a church that acknowledged, supported, and openly accepted all people. I have two mothers and when trying to have our children raised in the church, it was important that they were not being taught that their grandparents were bad people for simply loving each other. When we found Glendale we were ecstatic!

We weren’t necessarily looking for a church, but immediately felt at home at Glendale. Through some of the hardest times of our lives, the Glendale community always found a way to support us right when we needed it most. After having complicated relationships with church in the past, we have found a community of faith that we weren’t sure was ever going to be a part of our lives.
  • The Murdocks
Within the first few minutes of our first worship service at Glendale UMC, we knew we’d found, not just a church, but a community full of love. From the welcome message of inclusion, we knew we’d found a home and a place for our daughter to learn about and love Christ.
  • Kellie Hargis
I was seeking a place where I could feel authentically welcomed just as I am, a place where I could feel God’s peace and comfort, a place to refuel each week without pressure or intimidation. What I found was so much more! I have never attended a church where God’s love is more palpable. What a blessing.

I grew up in Nashville and have always called Glendale UMC - Nashville home. With that said, there is more new life in this community of faith than I have seen in my 31 years - it is exciting to see so many new people come to find their home here! Glendale is a place for ALL people to come and grow in their faith (and that means bringing their doubts too), loving one another and finding a God who loves them back for all of who they are. Come, experience worship with us - Sundays @ 10am!
