Who We Are

The current church Sanctuary building was erected in 1914. The fellowship wing was added in 1959. With the exception of a small portion of the rear fellowship wing, the church's exterior is of Carderock stone. A tall bell tower sits at the southeast corner of the sanctuary building with large stained-glass windows facing the east, north and south. The interior of the sanctuary is classic old European design. Vaulted ceilings with large beams in the Sanctuary, 1800's liturgical furnishings, a Baroque-style pipe organ in the rear of the nave and English oak pews.

Our Services

What are services like?
The early service features a 30 minute spoken liturgy of prayer, sermon, Holy Communion, and a Bible reading. It is extremely casual. Most of our families with small children attend this service. The children take up the offering. Holy Communion is served in a circle around the Baptismal font. The later service is a full hour, traditional service that includes all of the above, plus choral music, organ/piano, hymns, three Bible readings, and a more detailed sermon.

What is the community like?
Georgetown Lutheran Church (GLC) was founded in 1769. It's church building has been on the same site since that year. We are a progressive congregation of Christians who love helping those less fortunate like the homeless; welcoming to those ostricized from other religious institutions, like gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgendered people. Our members and regular visitors are Republican, Democrat and Independent. The rich worship with the poor, and native born Americans worship with people from other countries including Japan, Germany, Brazil, and Iran, just to name a few.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We welcome all people! Several of our members are married to non-Christians. They attend services as well from time to time. If a non-Christian attends any of our services, we don't know it unless they tell the pastor or another member of the church. Holy Communion is offered to everyone. It is up to the individual where or not to accept the invitation to recieve the Sacrament.
