About Us

Family Church. Servant Church. Deep Church.

We are a United Methodist congregation in Wharton, TX, seeking to love God and our neighbors through worship, service, study, and fellowship. We have an active youth group, a growing children's ministry, a wonderful daycare, an exciting music ministry, a dedicated prayer ministry, and much more.

The more time you spend with us, the more you'll hear the phrase, "Family Church, Servant Church, Deep Church." Those are our three core emphases, and we always come back to them with everything we do.

Each of those core areas has a goal:

Family: To invite the families of Wharton into the family of God. To become a place where parents, children, singles, couples, childless couples, and everyone else in the community can find a spiritual home and fellowship at God's table.

Servant: To show God's love in tangible ways by ministering to the physical needs of the community. To follow a Wesleyan vision of "social holiness" by reaching out to "the least of these."

Deep: To invite every member of First Methodist to go one step deeper in their relationship with God each year. To provide opportunities for every single person to take the next step on their faith journey.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Sunday Morning, 10:30am, sanctuary. Our Sunday morning worship is laid-back traditional. We sing hymns with a choir and piano, and celebrate Holy Communion once a month. Most people dress up a little, but you are welcome to come in anything you find comfortable! The service lasts about an hour, and includes singing, prayers, and a sermon. Sermons can be found on the website by Sunday evening.

What is the community like?
We're a mix of people from all walks of life. There are retired people, working families with adult children, families with younger children, and of course a handful of college students from WCJC. We're small enough that you really get to know people. If you're looking for a place to plug in, check us out.

What if I'm not a Christian?
You're welcome. The services are very user-friendly and easy to follow, so you won't "stand out" as a newcomer. If you have questions about what goes on the in the service, check out the "I'm New" section of the website, or look through past sermons.
