First Church's mission statement reads:
We, the First United Church of Christ of Milford, Connecticut, are an historic and inclusive community of God's children, moved by the spirit, who hear and believe the Word of God, and minister in the name of Jesus Christ.

We seek to discern God's will and strive to carry out the teachings of Jesus Christ in faith, worship and service.

Our congregation consists of people from different backgrounds and different religious traditions united as a community dedicated to the proclamation and sharing of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

As part of the United Church of Christ, we affirm the extravagant welcome and radical hospitality of our denomination with an affirmation that:
