First Presbyterian Church

About Us

We strive to be who God says we are: Light to the World and Body of Christ.

We are a New York village church, and one of the historic buildings in the community. Our congregation worships and serves in the Reformed tradition, which values thinking about our faith, and revealing that faith in care for persons and for the wider world. We believe that God is alive in the world, and we do what we can to join God in God's work. Members and friends of our congregation are very much involved in the life of our community, and our church is well-known and well-respected as a people who will do what they can to support and serve.

Our Services

What to Expect

What are services like?
Our services follow a traditional Reformed liturgy (praise, confession, proclamation of the word, sending. Our prayer is that each worship service will touch each person (and the worshiping community) with the grace of God in just the way we need to be touched. We value worship which is empowering: empowering the human spirit, empowering people to live a life of faith, empowering people to serve others an healthy whole-making ways.

What is the community like?
We are diverse in age, with several families in their 20's and 30's and a number of folk in their 80's and 90's. There are lots of children, and we are definitely NOT the kind of church where children are "seen but not heard." Children are active in worship and in the life of the congregation. Children are loved and valued, and encouraged to share and live their faith.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Our congregation is respectful of all persons. While we are clearly a Christian church, we strive to be welcoming and embracing of all persons. At our best, what we believe is shown through the love and welcome we offer to all person. We have worked hard to create worship and worship resources that do not exclude persons who do not "know the language" of the Christian faith.
