About Us

Authentic, inter-generational, blended, Christ-centered, progressive

Looking for a welcoming church in the Beacon area? We've got a long history in the area (over 175 years), but we're also open to the Spirit for new ways to grow in our faith and to share it with others.

Mission: The First Presbyterian Church of Beacon, NY is called to be a nurturing congregation that is able to spread the Good News of the Gospel and the teaching of Jesus Christ in our community, nation, and world.

Our Services

Sunday
10:00am
Traditional, liturgical service with bursts of creativity.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Our services are liturgical, with occasional bursts of creativity on special occasions. Preaching is biblically-based and relevant to the lives of the members. There has been a renewed emphasis on including children in the first portion of worship before they leave for their Sunday School/Discipleship time during the service. Traditional hymns are sung with occasional contemporary, folk, and global praise mixed in. Music is performed with both an organ and piano, with occasional guitar, drums, and other instrumentation. We have a choir and occasionally have a bell choir and small singing/instrumental ensembles for contemporary pieces.

What is the community like?
The majority of our congregation has been a part of the church community for years, if not generations. Though older, they are quite caring and welcoming to newer families, which he have had quite a few, lately. The original members are reflective of the older, working-class history of Beacon, while newer friends and members are recent additions to the community, many of whom are a part of the emerging creative class. We have started the Faith in Art Gallery in the church basement and partnered with the Beacon Music Factory to strengthen our connection with the arts community.

What if I'm not a Christian?
The vast majority of our members - whatever their age or maturity - recognize their need for growth in faith. There is a strong sense of welcome and understanding for people... whatever their background may be. The space to grow in faith at one's own pace is a gift of this congregation. Non-Christians will be welcomed and invited to join/commit at their own pace and as the Spirit of God moves within them.
