First Congregational United Church of Christ Fairport NY

About Us

Grounded in tradition. Reaching out in His Love.

Our church was formed in 1824 as the First Congregational Church -- making us the oldest congregation in the Town of Perinton. In 1957, we became part of the newly formed United Church of Christ, but have maintained much of our congregational roots and traditions in both worship style and governance. In our church sanctuary hangs a banner that proclaims, "In essentials, unity. In nonessentials, diversity. In all things, love." We try to abide by this motto, as we move forward preaching the Gospel, celebrating the sacraments and reaching out in word and deed.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Our rich, traditional style of worship with full choir is held each Sunday morning at 9:30. Nursery care is provided. Church school for children and youth is held during the worship hour throughout the school year. The sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month.

What is the community like?
The First Congregational UCC, or "First Church" as we call ourselves, has 362 church members and an average weekly worship attendance of 130. The majority of our congregation describes themselves as business or professional workers or retirees. We tend to be theologically moderate. We regularly engage in acts of charity and service to persons in need. In times of trouble -- we are there for one another. We also strive to provide excellent Christian education for children and youth and a meaningful youth group experience.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We invite you to visit us...join us in worship, attend a Christian education class, speak with our pastor, enjoy a cup of coffee or a potluck dinner with our church family. If you feel comfortable here and would like to join our congregation, new members are received into the First Congregational UCC in the following ways: 1. Affirmation of Faith -- This would be appropriate if you've never been baptized or a member of another church; 2. Reaffirmation of Faith -- This would be your choice if you have been baptized but are not currently a member of another church; or 3. Letter of Transfer from another church.
