About Us

A 21st Century Christian Community with Deep Historical Roots

At First Church, we embrace an impressive 360 year history that includes our founding in 1652, the construction of our current Meetinghouse in 1772, providing homes for the Amistad Africans in 1842, serving as a hub of the Underground Railroad, funding the construction of Hope Day School in Freetown, Sierra Leone in 2006, and voting to become Open and Affirming (ONA) in 2012. We welcome all to worship every Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. throughout the year. We offer God our praise and adoration through inspiring music, powerful proclamation, and beautiful moments of prayer. Following worship, we gather for refreshments and conversation in Porter Memorial Hall. During the service (10-11:15AM), our youngest children (infants - age 3) are cared for by a dedicated team of child care professionals in the nursery in Amistad Hall. Pagers are provided for parents. Children in pre-K, K, and up to Grade 8 begin their day by worshipping with their families; after a brief message from the pastor, they are escorted by shepherds to their church school activities in Amistad Hall. Youth in grade 9 attend confirmation class after worship. We offer both a middle and high school youth group.
