Our Services

What are services like?
We generally have two services each Sunday.. Our Early Worship, which begins at 9:00 a.m., tends to be a little more informal and casual, perhaps even a little more intimate. Our later service, which begins at 11:00 a.m., might lean a little more toward the traditional side, while still maintaining a "blended" approach. On certain occasions, such as during the summer, on the last Sunday of the year or on our annual congregational meeting, we have one combined service at 10:00 a.m. Please check the home page to see if there is only one service for a particular date. Our Senior Minister, Rev. Dr. Russell Peterman, and each week's worship leaders will guide things as they go, and your bulletin will give you a rundown of that week's order of service. At both services we run the gamut from lyrical classical music to hand-clapping gospel, from silent prayer to stirring preaching. And each service concludes with Communion, a simple meal of bread and juice that forms the center of our life together. At FCC, everyone is welcome to take Communion, whether you are baptized or not, whether you believe a little, or believe a lot!

What is the community like?
We are a progressive, inclusive, welcoming community of faith.

What if I'm not a Christian?
We'll welcome you just like we would our family. We don't claim to have all the answers, but simply acknowledge that we are all on a spiritual journey. We boldly proclaim that wherever you are on that path, you are welcome here!

Russ Peterman

Russ Peterman

Our Senior Minister is one of our own native sons. Russ Peterman grew up in this congregation and was active in its ministry, participating in many of its annual Mexico Mission trips, before going off to college at Texas Christian University (B.A. 1990) and was ordained in this church in January 1995. While in seminary, he served the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church as its Seminary Intern for Youth and Young Adults. Since that time he has served other congregations including Highlands Christian Church in Dallas, Texas, and for eight years as the Associate Minister of Sandy Springs Christian Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Peterman also holds degrees from San Francisco Theological Seminary (M.Div. 1995) and received his Doctor of Ministry (2004) from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia. A highly sought-after preacher and speaker, Russ loves speaking with people about the heart-waking, soul-changing God who is capable of turning their lives inside out and the world upside down! He is married to the love of his life, Kelli, and the proud father of twins, Jake and Ella, and Abby and Caroline -- whom he loves even more than Ben & Jerry's ice cream. In his spare time Russ likes to read with his kids, play golf, practice yoga, and runs marathons with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training.
