Joe Contreras
Senior Pastor

Pastor Joe Contreras is the Senior Pastor of Highlandville First Assembly of God. He joined the pastoral staff in August 2014 following 21 years of fruitful ministry at First Assembly of God in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where he oversaw the ministry of six congregations. Pastor Contreras’ heart is to help each member reach his or her God-given potential. This is evident in his insightful preaching and the tender and compassionate way he leads the congregation into times of worship and prayer. Pastor Contreras is a graduate of Evangel University. He also has earned advanced degrees in education and administration from Kean University and Seton Hall University. He received his seminary training from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary and New Brunswick Theological Seminary. While pastoring in New Jersey, Pastor Contreras also served as a public school teacher for 18 years, as an instructor at the New Jersey District School of Ministry for eight years, and as Assistant Presbyter for six years. Pastor Contreras and his wife, Marilyn Joy, were married in 1972. They served for 12 years as Assemblies of God missionaries to Latin America and Spain. They have one daughter and two granddaughters.
