What to Expect

What are services like?
Our early service at 8:00 is Holy Eucharist Rite I with no music. Our 11:00 service is Rite II with music. We use the Hymnal 1982 as well as the Gather Comprehensive (Roman Catholic) and a self-made hymnal with praise songs and tradtional evangelical hymns. We use the Book of Common Prayer. On occasion, we host a Creative Liturgy Sunday which follows the outline of the liturgy but allows for creative expression in music, word, movement, or drama.

What is the community like?
We have lots of young families who are very active in the Sunday School program; an enthusiastic youth group; middle aged and older adults who actively volunteer their time and energy in our Outreach programs and new Day School (daycare). We also have a strong Pastoral Care commission for our members who need help with food, visits, phone calls, or other assistance. It is very loving and connected. We like to eat, too.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Our definition of Christian is not necessarily dependent on having experienced a moment in time that you can look back on and say that was the definite time you became a Christian (although we do not discount it). We trust that if you were baptized, that was the beginning of your faith journey. You are welcome at communion as long as you have been baptized, and we accept all baptisms as valid. However, there is no gatekeeper at the communion rail. We invite all who want to know more about Jesus to join us.

If you were to walk in our doors, you would find a typical Episcopal church with a typical service right out of the Book of Common Prayer--unless it is a Creative Liturgy Sunday (which we have occasionally at the late service). If you aren't from a liturgical background, you would find us following the order of service from the Book of Common Prayer and singing hymns out of our hymnal (we use three). So it would be a lot of book-juggling, but that is the nature of our tradition. Don't hesitate to ask for help if you are lost. Once you get the hang of it, you'll never look back. The fellowship here is warm, and we love to eat. We are strong on outreach, strong on Christian Education.
