What people say about First Baptist Church Of Elk Park

  • Hi, my name is Cori Mitchell. I'm 45 years old, and have been homeless for the last 4 months following the tragic end of a wonderful relationship.
I have come to Boone to be more involved in my 12 year old son's life. He lives here with his father, until I can get back on my feet.
About a year and a half ago, I applied for housing vouchers, and I've finally got them! Ideally, I'd love to find a Rent-to-Own house or trailer in a secluded area near Hardin Park School, as that's where my son goes. My pets are my family now, and I'd love for them to have some freedom. Also, I'd really enjoy growing a garden again.
The Housing Vouchers will cover the majority of my rent or payments, and I'm so grateful for the blessing!!
My issue is this-- my car broke down right about the time I lost my home and husband, and therefore I was no longer able to make it to work. It's been difficult to say the least.
Once I pick out a place, I'll need to pay first and last month's rent or payment, a security deposit, get electricity, internet, garbage and water, and furnish the place.
I've applied for dozens of jobs online, but without a car, it's pretty difficult to get hired. I've looked into AppalCart, but it doesnt come to where I'm staying right now.
In Mountain City, some churches have programs to help the less fortunate, and I was wondering if your church was involved in anything like that? Or if you could post this on your bulletin board?
I've reached out to DHS, TEFAP, LIHEAP, WAMY, Helping Hands and the local food banks, but unfortunately they have their limitations, and I know God doesn't!
    I'm not asking for cash.
What I need is some way to get situated in my new home, a vehicle I could make monthly payments on, and a job!! I could definitely use vouchers for the local thrift shops for clothing and furniture, also....
My immediate need is a way to get to the local food banks, Health Dept and to pick up the Housing Vouchers this Thursday at 2:00.
It's incredibly difficult to get back on your feet when you've lost everything, and I sincerely need help.
If anyone has an affordable vehicle that I could buy in payments, or knows of a decent job that would pick me up near Bamboo Road, or knows of a good place for me to Rent-to-Own , or would be willing to give me a ride to town sometime, please contact me at:
