Court Street United Methodist Church, located in historic downtown Lynchburg, VA, is dedicated to "making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world."
What are services like?
Court Street (as the members like to call it) offers a traditional worship service in a beautiful turn-of-the-century sanctuary. Come and join us on Sunday to worship the Risen Christ. You will hear a powerful message delivered by our pastor. You will also take in the inspiring music led by a world class pipe organ, a talented and accredited staff second to none, and frequent solo and instrumental artists.
What is the community like?
Court Street ministers to our local community through numerous outreach programs, and our influence reaches throughout the world through our affiliation with The United Methodist Church.
What if I'm not a Christian?
In worship, praise and ministry, we respond to God's call by reaching out to all people with light, hope and a vision of God's love.
It is a homecoming of sorts for The Reverend William (Bill) T. Burleigh as he was baptized at Court Street UMC in 1953 by his great uncle the Rev. Hugh Marshall Burleigh. Bill and his wife Shelley reside in the Concord area on the Burleigh family farm. Their children, Jenny, Stephanie and Travis are all out living on their own. Bill was in his mid 40’s when he heeded the calling to ministry. He attended Duke University and has been a pastor in the Lynchburg district since that time. Answering the call to ministry has been the most fulfilling thing Bill has done in his life.
Court Street's people have a heart for Missions and participate in many outreach projects throughout the year including serving meals at Park View Community Mission. Come worship with us at Court Street on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. You will find the music inspirational and Pastor Bill's sermons relevant to life today.
