About Us

A contemporary church with a sense of history... where all are pilgrims

Welcome to Church of the Pilgrims! We invite you to be part of this joyful community, this Presbyterian Church (U.S.A), community, “where all are pilgrims but none is a stranger.” We are a diverse congregation, with a commitment to inclusiveness, hospitality and social justice. Children, youth and adults, singles, couples and families are all a valued part of our inter-generational community of faith. It is our hope that when someone walks through our doors, they can be themselves and experience God within a compassionate Christian community. We hope to meet individuals where they are at in their Christian faith journey, yet know personal and social change and transformation are central to the Christian life. In addition to worship, we gather regularly for outreach, fellowship, study, and support.

What to Expect

What are services like?
Worship at Church of the Pilgrims is a participatory event, where each week the gathered community joins in song, prayer, preaching, storytelling, reflection, and sacraments. A bulletin provides the order of worship, and worship leaders, including the pastors, music director, and members of the congregation, lead the community through the morning service. Most weeks include times of silence and sharing, standing and sitting, meditation and movement. Our intent in worship is to engage our senses, body and soul, and connect us with God and our neighbor—both those next to us in the pews, and those outside our doors.

What is the community like?
We are a diverse community of around 100 members, many under the age of 40, coming from all over DC and parts of Virginia and Maryland. We are a community of transformation that engages newcomers, especially young adults, in the practices of Christian community, centered in hospitality, social justice, and spiritual formation, affirming each person, and calling out the best in every individual.

What if I'm not a Christian?
All are pilgrims... and we come at various places along our pilgrim journey. Faith and doubt are both part of that journey. We are a community where questions are honored, and diverse expressions of faith are accepted.
