Central Community Church

About Us

We are an urban church, loving God, making disciples, reaching our world.

We believe the Bible reveals the message of the triune God’s loving redemptive work to restore his broken, fractured, and sin affected creation through the sending of the Son. Those who believe in Jesus and his gracious provision for us through his life, death, resurrection, and ascension may receive new life with God. We are then united with other believing people, following Jesus together through the power of the Holy Spirit. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 As an affiliated congregation of the Assemblies of God we have a theological framework that enables us to maintain church fellowship and engage in the God-centered, Jesus-shaped, Spirit-empowered life and mission God has given us.

Central Assembly of God Church's history began in 1954 as a bilingual congregation, holding services in both Italian and English. Originally the church met in the home of Rev. Giardella, the founding pastor, at 1195 Bennington Street in East Boston. In 1955 the church moved to a rented space at the Salvation Army facility on Saratoga Street. The church affiliated with the Assemblies of God in 1957 and that same year purchased a German Lutheran church building at 50 Bennington Street where we continue to meet. Though we no longer have services in Italian, we continue to display ethnic diversity.

Pastor David Searles has been the pastor of Central Assembly of God since 1993. David and his family live in East Boston around the corner from the church facility and experience all the joys (diversity of people) and challenges of city living (finding a parking place late at night). Pastor Dave has a Doctor of Ministry degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary with a concentration in ministry in complex urban settings. He is the presbyter of the Boston Section of the Southern New England Ministry Network of the Assemblies of God, provides Chaplaincy services for the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center's PACE program, is a member of the East Boston Trauma Team and serves on the leadership team for the East Boston Peace Walks. His wife, Barbara works as a social worker for the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center in their Neighborhood PACE Program.
