An inclusive Christian community of faith. Welcome home.

On this journey of faith, we all come from different backgrounds. We are made up of different ages, cultures, and denominations.

Some of us have recently found the church while others of us have spent our whole lives in the congregation. Still others have journeyed away and have come back.

We are connected on this journey of faith, seeking a deeper commitment to Jesus the Christ, our Savior, Redeemer and Friend, and to each other as the body of Christ on earth.

Our roots are American Baptist, but we are a community church. Our history contains the stories of Gregory Heights Community Church, which existed at our current location, and Columbia Baptist Church in Seattle.

The two congregations came together in the 1990's, and Burien Community Church emerged in 1996.

We are affiliated with the Evergreen Association of the American Baptist Churches, USA.

What to Expect

What are services like?
We are a small church and we like to have fun. We follow an order of service but tend to be casual, even informal. We sing traditional hymns with some contemporary songs, using piano, organ and guitar. We sing, we pray, we praise, and we ponder. Sermons are thought-provoking, based on the Bible and bringing in contemporary scholarship as well as offering opportunity for dialogue and discussion among the people. We pray a lot for each other, for the people we know who are sick or in need, and we love to greet one another. Children are warmly welcomed to be part of the service and may go to Children's Church after the Children's Message. Communion is celebrated once a month.

What is the community like?
We are a small church, but with a big heart and a desire to welcome and include others and to grow. We are multi-generational, with several young adults, a few children, and lots of grandparents. We welcome and include all people, including people of all ages, races, ethnicities, genders, sexual ordientation and economic statuses. We often get together for potluck dinners and other informal gatherings, as well as gathering on occasion for social justice and outreach projects along with Bible Study and other "traditional" church activities.

What if I'm not a Christian?
You are welcome to join us for worship on Sunday! We do not judge. We all are on the journey of faith and we all come from different places, but we are all seeking to learn and grow in faith together, seeking Jesus and his way of love, salvation, mercy and justice.

This church is very inviting and is officially a welcome and affirming congregation of AWAB. This church has supported the community with a food ministry, after school program, Easter Egg Hunt, Trunk or Treat, Pride and Strawberry festival, game nights, Financial Literacy Workshops, scholarships to summer camp, support other local Ministries such as Mary's Place and Hospitality House and so much more. While we a few we coin our selves the little church with the big heart. We have service @ 10am on Sundays and two other congregations if that doesn't work for you. New Walk @ 12pm and Ebenezer Confernidad @ 2pm (Service is in Spanish)

Nothing. The description above is all false. This church has very few members that come on Sunday. The current pastor has chased all the members away. There are usually 0-5 people in the pews on Sunday. The sermons are so odd they don’t have any relevance to todays world. You don’t leave feeling like you’ve been enriched in any way. The church won’t survive and it will probably close and sale off the property. Unfortunately , the new pastor has chased members away by his awful behavior.best advice is go to any other church in the area. You’ll have a better experience.

The church was Not Gregory Heights Community Church! It was Gregory Heights Baptist Church, the title community was added after the decision to merge the two congregations because it sounded more inviting. I was a member of Gregory Heights Baptist Church, I was the Sunday School teacher for a few years at Gregory Heights Baptist Church and was there when we changed the name. I moved away from the area so changed my membership. I like accurate history. Patti Chouery
