Bethlehem Lutheran Church

Bethlehem Lutheran Church

About Us

Bible Based; Confessional/Word and Sacrament; Blended Service Style

Bethlehem is a classic rural congregation. As Bible based believers we hold up Scripture to be the inerrant Word of God and have a passion for sharing the Good News of salvation that comes only by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, the incarnate Son of God. We are a friendly, welcoming congregation that is committed to meeting the needs of our neighbor as God has blessed us. We are closely connected with Community Sharing, which is a Christian service group that provides food and clothing and other assistance as we are able.

What to Expect

What are services like?
We use a printed order of service that reflects a balance of traditional liturgical style and contemporary liturgical style. We use mostly hymns from the "Lutheran Service Book" that reflect the congregation's familiarity and favorites. The Sacrament of the Altar is celebrated on the first and third Sunday's of the month and is open to all Lutheran's who are in pulpit and altar fellowship with the Missouri Synod.

What is the community like?
Due to the resort nature of Lewiston, Bethlehem is predominantly retired folk. And yet we also have a number of families with children ranging in age from elementary grades thru High School. We have an active youth program for youth aged 13 on up. There is a small group ministry program for adults, in addition to pastor led Bible Studies on Sunday and Wednesday. We have a both a ladies group and a men's fellowship.

What if I'm not a Christian?
You are always welcome. Since we are a liturgical church you may find the order of service a little challenging. Be patient and commit to attending two or three weeks. This will give you an opportunity to become comfortable using something new (kind of like learning to ride a bike). Missouri Synod Lutherans practice what is called "Close Communion." This is explained in our Communion Statement. If you do not come out of a Lutheran background you will be asked to refrain from receiving the Sacrament until after you have gone through instruction with the pastor.
