Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church

About Us

A Church in Leesburg, Virginia

Bethel Presbyterian Church insists upon the absolute authority of God's word, preaches Christ as the Son of God who died for sinners, honors God as the sovereign Lord of the universe, and lives by the life-giving power of the Holy Spirit. We are part of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. We take as our doctrinal statement the historic Confession of Faith and Catechisms produced by the Westminster Assembly (1643-49).

What to Expect

What are services like?
We believe that the Bible has a great deal to say about the elements, order, structure, and content of our worship. Expect a worship service in which God is the audience and we, the congregation, are the actors. Be prepared to participate meaningfully and intensively through vigorous singing, corporate prayers, Scripture reading, and the confession of our faith. Expect music that reinforces sound and true theology. Expect a whole-hearted belief in, and reverence for, the Word of God and proclamation from it that will give no quarter to sin, and leave no place to hide from the love of God in Christ.

What is the community like?
We joyfully glorify Christ and serve one another, living in the reality of this age and the one to come. Our love for Christ and our members is demonstrated as we faithfully pray for, and serve one another through all the challenges of this life. We seek to be a blessing to the surrounding Leesburg community and to see the kingdom of Christ advanced throughout the world.

What if I'm not a Christian?
None of us is perfect; none of us has met God's perfect standards. Only one person in all of history has ever fully lived the commandments to love God with all his heart and to love his neighbor as himself. Jesus, who was with his Father at creation and who is God himself, became man and lived a sinless life among us. He personally experienced our sorrows and difficulties in life. He saw the very worst that can be done to a person: betrayal by a close friend, false accusations, a mob crying out for his execution, and a terrible, undeserved death. We deserved that death because we have sinned, because we have broken God's perfect commandments, but Jesus did not. His death would be a sad tragedy if the story ended there. Jesus rose again from the dead giving us the hope of a new life in this age and in all eternity. In his mercy, God accepts Jesus' death as the fulfillment of what we owe, and will credit to us the perfect life that He lived. How does that exchange come about? God calls us simply to a whole-hearted faith. We must trust Jesus alone to save us. We must turn from all the wrong that we have done and seek God's forgiveness through Jesus. Through his church, we may worship, serve and learn more about him. In his strength we can grow in grace and endeavor to live lives that will make us more and more like Jesus. We heartily acknowledge this truth about ourselves, and hope you will join us in acknowledging it as well: "And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus." (Eph. 2:1-6, New American Standard Bible)
