Bethel Baptist Church

I was raised in this church. I lived with my grandparents, Loy and Lillian (Lilly) Wendell, and Mother Francis Wendell, all buried at the cemetery there. We lived on our farm about 1/3 mile south on the east side of the highway. What wonderful memories. I walked to Franks's gas station and store, across the road there many times to help him. He would let me drain the gas into cars from the old-style pumps. Memories. After WWII, my dad returned from the South Pacific, and we moved away settling in NM. Mom and I returned to the farm periodically and I attended school in Whitewright off and on. At age 17 I joined the Navy and was in Danang Vietnam 2 tours and flew in A-4 Skyhawks. Following a career of 22 years, 4 aircraft carriers, and 7 attack squadrons, I became a commercial pilot and FAA Accident Investigator. What a trip. Because of my faith training in Bethel Baptist Church, God never left me, but I drifted away from his righteousness over the years, but now at age 81 I have returned to Jesus. I am now the Recovery and Spiritual Advisor at our church here in Salt Lake City, UT. I thank God for Bethel Baptist Church and my grandparent's teaching. Tom Gierhart [email protected].. God Bless.
