Bellingham Friends Meeting
Staff & Leaders

  • No Pastors

At Bellingham Friends Meeting, we are an all volunteer spiritual community. While more seasoned Quakers may take on responsibilities or roles where they might seem to be "in charge", we consider our decision making process to be guided by the Spirit, not individuals. One example is that each week a Friend volunteers to be "Care of Meeting". This person initiates silent worship, breaks the silence about 1 hour later, and then follows a checklist that includes introductions of all present, asking the children what they did during worship, passing around the sign-up sheet, and facilitating announcements. Anyone can sign-up to be Care of Meeting. That person isn't "in-charge", but instead is there to support our spiritual journey for that brief period of time. Another example is our Ministry and Counsel Committee. The individuals on this committee focus particular attention on the spiritual health, wellness and function of our Meeting. They are nominated by the Nominating Committee and approved by the Meeting as a whole.
