Ammi Evangelical Baptist Church

About Us

Ammi Evangelical Baptist Church was founded in 1982 by Reverend Lamartine St. Juste and wife Ginette St. Juste, Director of Education, Sunday School and a small group of people in a small apartment on Miller Avenue, East New York where crime was rampant. It was a time when Haitian immigrants flocked to the United States due to political corruption and like many others came in search of a better life. However, several who came, although formerly active in their churches in the homeland of Haiti found it hard to worship and be nourished spiritually due to the language barrier of not speaking fluent English. As a result, Rev. St. Juste & his wife made it their life long mission to empower people of Haitian descent to seek, find, experience and share their faith in God. Although they felt exiled like the people of Israel in the bible, God always called His People by his name. Hence, the name Ammi which in Hebrew means "My People", a term of endearment expressed by the Most High God to demonstrate His Unfailing Love and unwavering commitment to set His People (AMMI) free.

Ammi E. Baptist Church also known as Eglise Evangelique Baptist Ammi or Eglise Baptiste Ammi and Ammi Baptist Church has grown from a group of 10 to an assembly of 150 members, 75 of which are baptized and 50 percent of which are in leadership roles for discipleship whether at Ammi or another sister church abroad. Ammi E. Baptist Church is located in the heart of Brooklyn in a predominantly mixed population with a large surrounding community of those from the Haitian Diaspora. As of 1990, the church evolved from Haitian to Haitian-American becoming a bi-lingual congregation. As a result of this, we have grown in all areas of ministry and still seek to build relationships with the community and other churches seeking to making a powerful impact on the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Ammi E. Baptist Church is your church and lives beyond the four walls of a building. Our faith and experience has taught us that all though some things are impossible with man, all things are possible with God. We stand firm in our belief that if you join us in empowering your faith and those around us, God will do a great work for the world.

We welcome you to our website and trust that what you find will inspire you to help us make a difference in our community.

May God Richly Bless You.

Warm Regards,

Rev. Lamartine St. Juste
