Who We Are

Access is a new church for our changing community in East Portland. No matter where you come from, what you've done, what's been done to you, what you've been through (or what you're going through right now) the truest thing about you is that you belong to Jesus. We seek to love, and learn how to serve our increasingly diverse community as a sign that all the peoples of East Portland belong to Jesus. This is Access: Where anyone can know God.

Our Services

What are services like?
Here at Access, our doors are wide open to people from all cultural backgrounds, regardless of where they are on their spiritual journey. We are a congregation that represents 12 countries. Our goal is to infuse life and God's love into people and families through engaging, powerful worship services that offer biblical truth in relevant and practical ways.

What is the community like?
When you arrive, grab a freshly brewed coffee or hot tea from our hospitality table and spend a few moments getting to know people around you. Find a seat wherever you feel comfortable. No matter where you sit, you'll get great sound and be able to see everything through our large screen above the stage. We want the service to be our gift to you and for you to leave knowing that no matter what has been done to you or what you have done in the past, that the truest thing about you is that "You Belong To Jesus."

What if I'm not a Christian?
So whether you are a spiritual seeker just starting to ask questions about God, or a committed Christian who wants to sink the roots of your faith even deeper, you can find a home here at Access.

Pastor Joel Sommer

As the son of a German/Jewish-American father, and a Filipina Immigrant mother, crossing cultures and bridging differences has been an unavoidable reality of Joel's life. He is planting Access because he is passionate about making places for folks who don't have a place; and because he loves celebrating the richness of many cultures coming together around the unusual story of Jesus. Besides Sabrina, his wife of nearly 10 years, and their 3 sons, the loves of his life are strong coffee, his yard, and the San Francisco Giants.
