"It's all coming back to me now." These words from Alex in our bible study summed up the week. Alex grew up in church but hadn't looked at the bible in years. But an enthusiastic student named Matt asked me to help him start a bible study for his friends. Instead of booking a room where people would have to come find us, we decided to meet in the Starbucks Cafe on campus during the morning rush. As we made observations of Mark 1, Alex wandered over to say hi to Matt. Matt invited him to join us as we looked at the life and ministry of Jesus. This week Alex expressed how grateful he was to find a Christian community to help point him back to Jesus. Because we met in public and Matt made the invitation, Alex is committing to studying the bible with us this semester! Sometimes the small decisions to be present with others help us share the good news of Jesus that much better.
I love these kinds of bible studies. We can look at a text we've already read dozens of times, but God can grab our attention in new ways each time. What's even better? Getting to see God open up the eyes of students to the truth of Jesus. Because college students love Jesus and long to see their friends experience his love, we have six small groups like this meeting on campus now! Imagine how many friends could encounter Jesus. Imagine if each of those small groups grew and multiplied! How broadly could we share the good news of Jesus? Imagine all the people like Alex could decide to "come back" or explore who Jesus is for the first time!
