With regard to Putin’s quote, let’s consider carefully the source of that quote before we let ourselves get all worked up about it.

With regard to Obama’s quote, again let’s consider carefully the source.

Exceptionalism somehow postulates that we are free to pursue whatever means is necessary to force our will upon other nations that we disagree with. Herewith we are God’s avengers, for wrongs committed by other nations.

Spoken like a true neo-con birther, on your comment about our beloved President.

Regarding comment about Putin, spoken like a true closed minded, Commie phobe of the years bygone – enter the 21st century ST.

What is it about Putin’s comments about American Exceptionalism do you find objectionable. By our own opinions of Americans we screw up often enough. For the wing bat section of teh right like you all the Democrats screw up all the time. Per my side the we feel 85% of the time the Republic dingbats once in a while stumble into something smart and even don’t know it. With such opinions of each other do you really think we are exceptional? with half the (give or take) thinking the other half are bunch of screw ups, from where do we surmise that we are exceptional. Give it a rest, Jingoism has no place in 21st century.

Secular- How long did it take you to compose this magnum opus? Is there a point somewhere in here that I’m missing entirely? You aren’t exactly advancing the cause of liberalism when you A) Can only express yourself through ad homenim, B) Lose your temper over a completely mild statement by the original poster, and C) say things like “our beloved president” with absolutely no sense of irony.

Our beloved president? You’ve made it clear that you know precisely nothing about Vladimir Putin, but could it really be that after 5 years you have nothing to say about this president and his administration other than fawning over him like a model Orwellian citizen?

And are you familiar with what the term “American exceptionalism” actually means? It’s a rather uncomplicated statement of fact. It simply means that Americans are the only people on planet earth who are born every day with no memory of autocratic government in their collective subconscious. We have no memory of pretending our rulers were appointed by heaven, of sultanism, of a cult of personality, or anything exterior to our simple constitutional republic. We are exceptional in this very cut-and-dry sense. You really would do yourself a service by looking things like this up.

I find Putin’s comments objectionable because he is an ex-KGB thug, a tyrant, a ruthless suppressor of free speech, a known torturer, and (judging by your name, you ought to have been aware of this one) a religious fanatic.

I find our own president more and more objectionable each day because some of his mindless supporters such as yourself seem hell bent on destroying the concept of American exceptionalism by worshiping a profoundly mediocre president as if he were a God.

XVIIHailSkins, enough man. My fawning on Obama, if you are not such a literalist was just to irk ST. He is a birther who cannot stand that Obama is our president while he has Onyx skin.

With regards to your definition of American Exceptionalism ” It’s a rather uncomplicated statement of fact. It simply means that Americans are the only people on planet earth who are born every day with no memory of autocratic government in their collective subconscious. ” Really?? Why dont you go and parade that definition to all the African-americans and Hispanic-Americans and ask them if they have any memory of autocratic government. Have you ever heard that Slavery was rampant in these United States of America until about 150 years ago? Are you even ever heard of teh Jim Crow laws that were prevalent in confederate south unti just some 50 years ago. So do you still want to go with that definition of American Exceptionalism. I bet not.

American Exceptionalism as I understand is just right wing nonsense, that attributes plain superiority of America, wherein it can do no wrong (except when there is a Democrat occupying the white house). It is the great boon given by their sky daddy to the rest of the world in teh form of these United States. Their attitude is if US had screwed up something (which of course it never does) rest of the world needs to just get over it.

As far as I am concerned, I am here in the US out of choice, unlike these birthers and neanderthals. It is a great place for liberty and pursuit of happiness. That said its leaders have on several occasions, screwed up and caused lots of misery both at home and abroad – more recent one being Iraq and Afghanistan.

As for Putin, I am quite aware that he is a thug. That does not mean his rhetoric is all wrong either. I know he is trying to exploit the situation (that none of our own Pols would never do). If you thought I was holding a candle to him, you are only exposing your naivete and foolishness.

    Continuing.

On this occasion I happen to agree with Putin’s assessment on the silly claims of American Exceptionalism. In fact i too take exception to “our beloved beloved president” OBAMA’s claim of American Exceptionalism. I am appalled that he was so plainly pandering to the rightwing nutjobs. I do not agree with him on everything either, I too have several complaints about him. If I was a fawning kind, I too would have written some crap like Bob Menendez reaction to teh opinion column. Easy man, take it easy.
