“Like Jesus, Annie laid down her life for her friends. Like Jesus, Annie’s life and death brings light, truth, goodness and love to a world often shrouded in darkness, evil, selfishness and death.”

N.Y. Cardinal Timothy Dolan said about Anne Marie Murphy at her funeral Mass at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church. Murphy was a teacher killed in the shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

Timothy Dolan supported the Republicans in the last election. The Republicans are wholly oned and operated by the NRA. The NRA demands unlimited gun access, including weapons that are used in war. The NRA proulgates the myth that people need so many weapons in order to fight the government. The mother of the shooter ascribed to that myth and that’s how he got those guns.

Timothy Dolan is in bed with the forces of the NRA and he could care less how many little kids get killed – just as long as gays can’t get married and women can’t get contraceptives.

Yeah, happy birthday Jesus, the “Prince of Peace”. Dolan is one of your representatives on Earth.

  • Conwaythe Contaminationist

Apparently Mr. Dolan, Catholic Cardinal, does not understand Catholic dogma or even the central concept of Christian belief.

The mythological character Jesus Christ did not lay his life down for his “friends”. He is portrayed in the New Testament Gospels as the “son” of the god Elohim and “laid down his life” via crucifixion, as a blood sacrifice to Elohim to atone for the sins of mankind.

Totally absurd, yes, but that what the Bible says.

When I think about what was going through the minds of these teachers, the school principal, and the school psychologist, tears come.

These people wrapped their bodies around the young children to shield them from gun fire and charged at the shooter instead of running away and hiding, in the hope of saving some lives. They really did give their lives.

Many of the teachers who survived were thinking mostly of the children when they ushered them into closets and bathrooms and while they were hiding there during the event. Seeing interviews of some of them afterwards on the news brought tears to my eyes.

There are so many good hearted people out there. How refreshing in light of the otherwise mostly cynical world in which we live.

It reminds me of the Paradoxical Commandments, which I think is appropriate to quote to remind people of the spirit of the holidays, especially in the context of the loving, selfless acts by the adults in this elementary schools that day. They were written by a 19 year old Harvard student named Kent Keith. I hope Mr. Keith hasn’t grown cynical since he wrote these words, but here they are.

    1. People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered. Love them anyway.
    2. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives. Do good anyway.
    3. If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.
    4. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
    5. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway.
    6. The biggest men with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men with the smallest minds. Think big anyway.
    7. People favor underdogs, but follow only top dogs. Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
    8. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.
    9. People really need help but may attack you if you do help them. Help people anyway.
    10. Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway.

  • Conwaythe Contaminationist

Mr. Keith was obviously a young, naive and idealistic individual; I wager he changed his mind as time wore on.

  • Liberty77

I think life would be a sad place if ideals didn’t survive as we “mature.”

I just did a little research about him, and it seems he still devotes his life to these ideas.

I have a lot of gray hair on my head, but the day these ideals die in me, that is the day I die.

  • bdbilldev

My thought: Let’s ban assault weapons. We need to give the lie to the idiot notion these weapons of war are holy. Let’s make it a grave, criminal offense to knowingly possess one. Let’s collect them and destroy them. Let’s rid the human environment of them, make them scarce, and so make the opportunity for mass killings that much scarcer. Out of love for children, for teachers, for parents, for God’s sake let’s do it!

  • Conwaythe Contaminationist

I have gray hair on my head too guy, and I think his words were the idealistic thoughts of a naive child. The world is not a nice place; it never has been or will be, and to react like Dr. Pangloss is the height of folly.

  • Conwaythe Contaminationist

Yeah, and then the criminal politicians, Democrat and Republican, running this moribund dump will herd us into concentration camps when it suits them, just like Herr Hitler did with unarmed Jews.

Don’t say you haven’t been warned – it has happened before, and it will happen again.

Quoting Santayana: “Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it.”

  • Liberty77

The challenge to be a good person is to do the right thing anyway, even if the world may not be a nice place.

How do you explain the acts of these adults at Sandy Hook if the world were not a nice place?

Whether the world is a nice place or not is up to the people who populate it and the choices they make every day.

  • Liberty77

When you feel like you can’t love other people, that is sad. Some days I do feel like that. I get over it, anyway.

  • Conwaythe Contaminationist

    Liberty:

It is a fact that normal adults tend to protect children, even those not their own, as children are our collective legacy.

As for myself, at this point in history I am only concerned with me and mine, considering that most human beings I encounter these days behave like the anthropoid apes they are related to.

That is sad, considering that if a cynical jerk like myself can behave like a civilized individual when in public, I reckon everyone else should be able to.

  • SODDI

That’s why you gun nuts supply guns to the mentally ill, right?

  • Liberty77

I think that most people are basically good. You may be cynical, but you certainly are not a jerk, judging by what you’ve posted. We are all trying to find a solution to protect what is innocent and good, that is, our children, our legacy.

  • Conwaythe Contaminationist

    Soddi:

You make value judgments without required data, and call names like a spoiled child when another disagrees with you.

That said, you sir, sound like an idiot.

Not to mention that Jesus was (to be) resurrected in this world, not just in Heaven.

Irregardless of whether you believe Jesus is Who He is or not, your statement makes no sense, seeing as Jesus showed He was/is a “friend” of humanity by His actions in addition to becoming humanity’s Brother in His Incarnation.

You wrote, “Mr. Keith was obviously a young, naive and idealistic individual; I wager he changed his mind as time wore on.”

I guess 2 out of 3 ain’t bad, yes, 19 is kind of young and his “Paradoxical Commandments” seem idealistic but I would have to disagree on the naive part.
