Saudi’s top sheikh: ‘Necessary to destroy all churches’

On Monday, March 12th, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah – Saudi Arabia’s supreme religious … Continued

On Monday, March 12th, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah – Saudi Arabia’s supreme religious official – created a stir when he stated that it is “necessary to destroy all the churches of the region.”  While responding to a question from a Kuwait-based NGO delegation to clarify Islamic law’s position about a proposed Kuwaiti ban on the construction of new churches, the mufti argued that the Prophet Muhammad said the Arabian Peninsula must exist under only one religion and, thus, all churches in the region must be destroyed.

Needless to say, his words have provoked heated responses from Christians throughout the Middle East.  All fair-minded people are rightly upset by his remarks, which hold the dangerous likelihood of triggering acts of violence against churches in the Middle East.  As Muslims, however, we are also deeply disappointed and offended by the mufti’s blatant disregard for the principles for which Islam’s Holy Scripture and prophet have stood.

The Koran establishes the principle that the origin of all religions is in divine revelation and that their Founders were divinely appointed messengers who must be equally respected.  It further commands Muslims to defend all places of worship – churches, synagogues, temples, cloisters, etc – even with their own lives.  Far from sanctioning any destruction, our faith instructs us to protect places of worship of all religions.

How can the highest recognized cleric in Saudi Arabia have completely abandoned such clear and direct commandments in the Koran?  It is entirely disappointing to see a man in a position of leadership in the Muslim world sanction – and even promote – the violent destruction or demolition of any house of worship, wherein the name of God is oft commemorated.

In fact, Islam goes even further.  Muslims have also been made to promise to defend followers of other faiths from unjust and cruel attacks. In 628, the Prophet Muhammad delivered the Charter of Privileges to the monks of St. Catherine Monastery in Mt. Sinai. This charter protected the human rights of all Christians and remains a guide for all Muslim states’ relations with non-Muslim minorities.  In this charter, the Prophet Muhammad made a declaration that nullifies the Saudi Mufti’s call to destroy all churches.  The charter, still preserved in Mt. Sinai today, states: “None of their churches or other places of worship will be desolated, destroyed or demolished. No material of their churches will be used for building mosques or houses for the Muslims. Any Muslim doing so will be regarded as disobedient to God and His Prophet.”

The only logical deduction to make from the Prophet of Islam’s clear instruction is that this Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia is disobedient to God and His Prophet.  The Prophet Muhammad even goes further by stating “every help shall be given (Christians) in the repair of their churches.”  So we can forget the notion of destroying churches.  We, as Muslims, are expected to help in repairing churches.

For those Muslims who may assert that this charter does not apply today, they need not look any further than Muhammad’s first words of the charter: “I have caused this document to be written for Christians of the East and the West, for those who live near, and for those of distant lands, for the Christians living at present and for those who would come after, for those Christians who are known to us and for those as well whom we do not know.”  The charter concludes, “Let this document be not disobeyed till the Judgment Day.”

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community calls upon the appointed leaders in different parts of the Muslim world to adhere to the words of the Prophet of Islam and to stop prohibiting the free exercise of faith.  As followers of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad – who claimed to be the second coming of Jesus and Messiah for all people to remove misconceptions in religion, revive the true teachings of Islam, and bring mankind back to God – the community advances his message that Islam forbids any act of aggression or terrorism against any religion.  Before innocent people are victimized by those seeking to fulfill the mufti’s commandment, he must align himself with the views of Islam’s scripture and Prophet by retracting his dangerous statement.

“Far from sanctioning any destruction, our faith instructs us to protect places of worship of all religions.”

So, how would you explain the destruction of various deities kept together in Kaaba by Muhammed? The birth of Islam itself is founded upon the destruction of the multicultural way of life in the city of Mecca in 6th century. Lets see what excuses/logical gymnastics can you come up with? According to some archaelogical evidence, Mecca as a city itself didn’t exist before 3-4 th century AD forget about Kaaba existing prior to that. So, Muhammed even imagined/deluded that Kaaba was built by Abraham (if he existed) probably did so 2000 years ago prior to that.

You guys stand for “love for all, hatred for none”.
SHAME on you for associating yourself with Islam, Quran and Muhammed. You just give cover to the Islamic fundamentalists and confuse the public.

    By the way.
Plenty of historical inaccuracies in the Quran. Surah 40 ayat 36:
And Pharaoh said, “O Haman, construct for me a tower that I might reach the ways -”
Haman lived 700-800 years AFTER the pharaoh who dealt with moses.

No creator needed in the following scenario:

o Think infinity and recycling with the Big Bang expansion followed by the shrinking reversal called the Gib Gnab and recycling back to the Big Bang repeating the process on and on forever. Human life and Earth are simply a minute part of this cha-otic, sto-cha-stic, expanding, shrinking process disappearing in five billion years with the burn out of the Sun and maybe returning in another five billion years with different life forms but still subject to the va-ga-ries of its local star.

What we do know: (from the fields of astrophysics, nuclear physics, geology and the history of religion)

    1. The Sun will burn out in 3-5 billion years so we have a time frame.

    2. Asteroids continue to circle us in the nearby asteroid belt.

    3. One wayward rock and it is all over in a blast of permanent winter.

    4. There are enough nuclear weapons to do the same job.

    5. Most contemporary NT exegetes do not believe in the Second Coming so apparently there is no concern about JC coming back on an asteroid or cloud of raptors/rapture.

    6. All stars will eventually extinguish as there is a limit to the amount of hydrogen in the universe. When this happens (100 trillion years?), the universe will go dark. If it does not collapse and recycle, the universe will end.

    7. Super, dormant volcanoes off the coast of Africa and under Yellowstone Park could explode catalytically at any time ending life on Earth.

Bottom line: our apocalypse will start between now and 3-5 billion CE. The universe apocalypse, 100 trillion years?

While you may argue that the Koran claims tolerance for other religions springing from Abraham, it certainly does not for Buddhism or Hinduism. I guess they don’t count.

The Mufti of Saudi Arabia is disobeying the teaching of Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet Mohammad (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him).In Islam, every effort is made to protect the peace of not only the Muslims, but also of the followers of other faiths. Allah Almighty says in Holy Quran,” And if Allah did not defend some men by means of others, there would surely have been pulled down monasteries, churches, synagogues and mosques wherein the name of Allah is oft remembered. (Ch.22: v.41) Mufti Of Saudi Arabia should read the “Charter of Medina. .One of the most extraordinary events to take place in history, the drafting of the Covenant of Medina (Sahifat al-Madinah), what some consider to be the world’s first constitution. It was a treaty and city charter between the Arabs and Jews of the city. All groups (Muslims, Jews, and non-Muslim Arabs) pledged to live in civic harmony, governed by mutual advice and consultation. The Covenant bound these varied groups into a common defense pact and stipulated that the Jews of the city were one community with the Muslims, that they were free to profess and practice their religion and that they were entitled to all the rights pertaining to the Muslims. This amazingly foresighted document was a revolutionary step forward in civil government. Holy Prophet never Permit to destroy any place of worship of any religion. o “In the 1930s, theoretical physicists, most notably Albert Einstein, considered the possibility of a cyclic model for the universe as an (everlasting) alternative to the model of an expanding universe. However, work by Richard C. Tolman in 1934 showed that these early attempts failed because of the entropy problem: according to the Second Law of Thermodynamics, entropy can only increase.[1] This implies that successive cycles grow longer and larger. Extrapolating back in time, cycles before the present one become shorter and smaller culminating again in a Big Bang and thus not replacing it. This puzzling situation remained for many decades until the early 21st century when the recently discovered dark energy component provided new hope for a consistent cyclic cosmology.[2] In 2011, a five-year survey of 200,000 galaxies and spanning 7 billion years of cosmic time confirmed that “dark energy is driving our universe apart at accelerating speeds.”[3][4]

One new cyclic model is a brane cosmology model of the creation of the universe, derived from the earlier ekpyrotic model. It was proposed in 2001 by Paul Steinhardt of Princeton University and Neil Turok of Cambridge University. The theory describes a universe exploding into existence not just once, but repeatedly over time.[5][6] The theory could potentially explain why a mysterious repulsive form of energy known as the “cosmological constant”, and which is accelerating the expansion of the universe, is several orders of magnitude smaller than predicted by the standard Big Bang model.”

A different cyclic model relying on the notion of phantom energy was proposed in 2007 by Lauris Baum and Paul Frampton of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.[7]“

What instigated the attack on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon?

And what drives today’s 24/7 mosque/imam-planned acts of terror and horror?

The koran, Mohammed’s book of death for all infidels and Muslim domination of the world by any means. Muslims must clean up this book removing said passages admitting that they are based on the Gabriel myth and therefore obviously the hallucinations and/or lies of Mohammed.

Until then, no Muslim can be trusted anytime or anywhere…………………………….

That type of commentary is so very concerning. I can speak form first hand experience from living in the region most of my life as an American and Christian. My Father legalized the practice of Christianity in the State of Qatar and was knighted by Pope John Paul II for doing so. If one individual with a strong following can make such a statement without a correction…then what would the consequences be?? That is not acceptable and tolerance must be imposed !

Well the qur’an says in Chapter:98 Verse:6 “Lo! those who disbelieve, among the People of the Scripture and the idolaters, will abide in fire of hell. They are the worst of created beings”…. and in Chapter:9 Verse:29 ” Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, and forbid not that which Allah hath forbidden by His messenger, and follow not the Religion of Truth, until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low…… according to one of the Islamic scriptures taught to believers ” narrated by ‘Umar b. al-Khattib that he heard the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) say: I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula and will not leave any but Muslim”. from sahih muslim Book:19 Number:4366 … hope this clarify some of why things are why they are in parts of the world where Islam dominate… Shalom alecheim!

  • san0g0

Not mentioned in the Qur’an? Well in the qur’an are many places that explain why things are the way they are where Islam comes to dominate, and it always does… quran Chapter:9 Verse:29 say “Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, and forbid not that which Allah hath forbidden by His messenger, and follow not the Religion of Truth, until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low……… and quran Chapter:98 Verse:6 say “Lo! those who disbelieve, among the People of the Scripture and the idolaters, will abide in fire of hell. They are the worst of created beings”. ………. but most importantly of all sahih muslim Book:19 Number:4366 narrated by Umar b. al-Khattib, state ” that he heard the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) say: I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula and will not leave any but Muslim” … There are more moderate verses early in the Qur’an but when Muhammed came to Medina and was stronger he began saying that they were out of date and abrogated by Allah… Hope it helps to understand why most (practically all) countries where Islam dominate are non multicultural and only allow total freedom of one religion.. Shalom alecheim!

JC’s family and friends had it right 2000 years ago ( Mark 3: 21 “And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.”)

Said passage is one of the few judged to be authentic by most contemporary NT scholars. e.g. See Professor Ludemann’s conclusion in his book, Jesus After 2000 Years, p. 24 and p. 694.

Actually, Jesus was a bit “touched”. After all he thought he spoke to Satan, thought he changed water into wine, thought he raised Lazarus from the dead etc. In today’s world, said Jesus would be declared legally insane.

Or did P, M, M, L and J simply make him into a first century magic-man via their epistles and gospels of semi-fiction? Most contemporary NT experts after thorough analyses of all the scriptures go with the latter magic-man conclusion with J’s gospel being mostly fiction.

Obviously, today’s followers of Paul et al’s “magic-man” are also a bit on the odd side believing in all the Christian mumbo jumbo about bodies resurrecting, and exorcisms, and miracles, and “magic-man atonement, and infallible, old, European/Utah white men, and 24/7 body/blood sacrifices followed by consumption of said sacrifices. Yummy!!!!

So why do we really care what a first century CE, illiterate, long-dead, preacher/magic man would do or say?

The socalled Grand Mufti must have gone nuts. Prophet Mohammad no where
said what he claims. He probably has not been out of his sandy dwellings and
sand storms and dates seem to have blurred his vision and thingking. People like him cause un-necessary tensions and charaters like Staff Sergeant Bale and the like. An easier solution would to ban all silly superstitous belief systems, such as Islam, Christianity, and Jewdism

  • Secular1

This is all futile discussion, because that silly book like any other scripture is vile and wicked book of myths, fair tales, and bigotry. One can always find a few passages that sound exemplary to the 21st century mind and zeitgeist. But most of that book, like others of its ilk, is putrid pond scum. The only thing, that will free the muslims who are emotionally wedded to that book is to do what Jews, Hindus, Christians and others have (explicitly or implicitly) done is to say I accept the good parts and leave the bad stuff out. Mind you, you only do that using your 21st century zeitgeist, there is nothing those vile books to guide you to the right path.

The fact that no muslim country has liberal universalist laws on their books, means those countries are indeed bigots and going by the book countries. Personally I wouldn’t want to live in any of them, except for business reasons. They are the pondscum of human civilizations.

    Banning will not be necessary:

Recognizing the flaws, follies and frauds in the foundations of Islam, Judaism and Christianity, the “bowers”, kneelers” and “pew peasants” are converging these religions into some simple rules of life. No koran, bible, clerics, nuns, monks, imams, evangelicals, ayatollahs, rabbis, professors of religion or priests needed or desired.

Ditto for houses of “worthless worship” aka mosques, churches, basilicas, cathedrals, temples and synagogues.

From Professors Crossan and Watts’ book, Who is Jesus.

“That Jesus was crucified under Pontius Pilate, as the Creed states, is as certain as anything historical can ever be.

“ The Jewish historian, Josephus and the pagan historian Tacitus both agree that Jesus was executed by order of the Roman governor of Judea. And is very hard to imagine that Jesus’ followers would have invented such a story unless it indeed happened.

“While the brute fact that of Jesus’ death by crucifixion is historically certain, however, those detailed narratives in our present gospels are much more problematic. ”

“My best historical reconstruction would be something like this. Jesus was arrested during the Passover festival, most likely in response to his action in the Temple. Those who were closest to him ran away for their own safety.

I do not presume that there were any high-level confrontations between Caiaphas and Pilate and Herod Antipas either about Jesus or with Jesus. No doubt they would have agreed before the festival that fast action was to be taken against any disturbance and that a few examples by crucifixion might be especially useful at the outset. And I doubt very much if Jewish police or Roman soldiers needed to go too far up the chain of command in handling a Galilean peasant like Jesus. It is hard for us to imagine the casual brutality with which Jesus was probably taken and executed. All those “last week” details in our gospels, as distinct from the brute facts just mentioned, are prophecy turned into history, rather than history remembered.”

    Summarizing with a prayer:

    ONLY for the newcomers:

From The Apostles’ Creed 2011: (updated by yours truly and based on the studies of historians and theologians of the past 200 years)

Should I believe in a god whose existence cannot be proven
and said god if he/she/it exists resides in an unproven,
human-created, spirit state of bliss called heaven??

I believe there was a 1st century CE, Jewish, simple,
preacher-man who was conceived by a Jewish carpenter
named Joseph living in Nazareth and born of a young Jewish
girl named Mary. (Some say he was a mamzer.)

Jesus was summarily crucified for being a temple rabble-rouser by
the Roman troops in Jerusalem serving under Pontius Pilate,

He was buried in an unmarked grave and still lies
a-mouldering in the ground somewhere outside of
    Jerusalem.

Said Jesus’ story was embellished and “mythicized” by
many semi-fiction writers. A descent into Hell, a bodily resurrection
and ascension stories were promulgated to compete with the
Caesar myths. Said stories were so popular that they
grew into a religion known today as Catholicism/Christianity
and featuring dark-age, daily wine to blood and bread to body rituals
called the eucharistic sacrifice of the non-atoning Jesus.

    Amen

Scott, Scott, you do know that proposing that nothing can be created from nothing is considered heretical by orthodox (not referring to Eastern Orthodox Christians) Christians. The majority of Christian churches (really all of the Trinitarian ones) subscribe to the doctrine of Creatio Ex Nihilo, or creation out of nothing (i.e., God can indeed create something from nothing). Pantheists such as Hindus and Buddhists agree with you that the world as we know it was created from existing matter. But pantheism is a heresy in the eyes of Christian churches. Yes, God preceded His creation, but that is the point; God is not part of His creation. He stands outside of it, unlike the God proposed by pantheists that is identical with the natural or created world. It is a sad fact that many who thought they were defending the true faith were surprised when they found themselves tied to a stake with flames licking at their ankles by innocently subscribing to heretical doctrine. Check it out.

TheTruth, are you a Christian? If, so you are being a little hypocritical calling Muslims to task for destroying idols. They destroyed a multicultural society? Before mosques were built on top of churches, churches were built on the top of pagan temples. And the Quran is full of historical inaccuracies; shame, shame on you. Well, that is if you are a Bible believing Christian. The Bible is loaded with historical and logical inaccuracies.

  • csintala79

Scott, this would be the same God that bet the Devil that there was nothing so heinous that he (the Devil) could do to Job that would make him deny himself, God? This is the same God that stated that He could do as He willed, being under no obligation to mankind to favor the righteous and punish the evil doer?

  • csintala79

Scott, the Bible is not evidence as it is of questionable authorship and is largely uncorroborated. You all hang on Josephus. He mentions Jesus, twice, but scholars disagree to the authenticity of these citations. As far as evidence, yes, the world is orderly, but that proves nothing unless there is agreement that order can only come from an intelligent creator; existence is eternal, i.e., no beginning or end, and all the natural rules and the process itself are uncreated, i.e., what is has always been. Even if it were agreed that this is evidence of a creator, it does not prove that this intelligent designer is the Judeo-Christian God. The arguments you refer to have been argued for two millenia without any of them being accepted as being sealed with no further argument being possible.

One more time, the safe and easy solution:

And from the studies of Armstrong, Rushdie, Hirsi Ali, Richardson and Bayhaqi)

The Five Steps To Deprogram 1400 Years of Islamic Myths:
( –The Steps take less than two minutes to finish- simply amazing, two minutes to bring peace and rationality to over one billion lost souls- Priceless!!!)

    Are you ready?

Using “The 77 Branches of Islamic “faith” a collection compiled by Imam Bayhaqi as a starting point. In it, he explains the essential virtues that reflect true “faith” (iman) through related Qur’anic verses and Prophetic sayings.” i.e. a nice summary of the Koran and Islamic beliefs.

The First Five of the 77 Branches:

    “1. Belief in Allah”

aka as God, Yahweh, Zeus, Jehovah, Mother Nature, etc. should be added to your self-cleansing neurons.

“2. To believe that everything other than Allah was non-existent. Thereafter, Allah Most High created these things and subsequently they came into existence.”

Evolution and the Big Bang or the “Gi-b G-nab” (when the universe starts to recycle) are more plausible and the “akas” for Allah should be included if you continue to be a “crea-tionist”.

“3. To believe in the existence of angels.”

A major item for neuron cleansing. Angels/de-vils are the mythical creations of ancient civilizations, e.g. Hitt-ites, to explain/define natural events, contacts with their gods, big birds, sudden winds, protectors during the dark nights, etc. No “pretty/ug-ly wingy thingies” ever visited or talked to Mohammed, Jesus, Mary or Joseph or Joe Smith. Today we would classify angels as f–airies and “tinker bells”. Modern devils are classified as the demons of the demented.

“4. To believe that all the heavenly books that were sent to the different prophets are true. However, apart from the Quran, all other books are not valid anymore.”

Another major item to delete. There are no books written in the spirit state of Heaven (if there is one) just as there are no angels to write/publish/distribute th

    A) Is Grand Mufti empowered to over-ride Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) guidance?
    B) Is the Grand Mufti correct in his statement? If so, please provide proof.
    C) In Mufti’s response; would Christian’s be justified to demolish all Wahabi/Sunni Mosques in Christian dominated countries?

Nice article by Mr.Naseem.Its really great effort by author to show the real teachings of Islam about the respect of other religions and their worship places. The Holy Quraan and Islam ,s teachings about this issue is very clear.Allah never taught any muslim to destroy or disrespect of any worship place either its church or temple.Because all these places are connected with the remembrance of God in them. From the life of Holy Prophet (PBUH) its also proved that He always respected other faiths and their worship places. In 628 C.E. the Holy Prophet (PBUH) granted a charter of Privileges to the monks of St.Catherine in Mt.Sinai.It consisted of several clauses covering all aspects of human rights including such topics as the protection of Christians, freedom of worship and movement, freedom to appoint their own judges and to own and maintain their property and the right to protection in war. This document is an excellent proof to give the respect and freedom of other human beings. This so called muslim mufti( who doesnt know the teachings of islam ) is disobeying Allah and the Holy Prophet(PBUH) because this is not the teaching of islam to harm anyone with your hand or to stop someone to worship and destroy their worship places. As the followers of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad the Pomissed Missiah who came to revive the true teachings of islam and the founder of Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam,we respect all other human beings ,s faith and give the message of peace and love.for further information about true islam please visit http://www.alislam.org
