“#Tebowing – to get down on a knee and start praying, even if everyone else around you is doing something completely different. Love it!”

Thus spoke Saint Timothy Tebow himself, on his Twitter account Thursday night.

Tebowing is the religious cousin of owling and planking, the idea being that you strike the unusual pose and post a photo of yourself on the Internet for all your friends to see.

The prayer pose of the Denver Broncos quarterback has become the subject of Internet meme this week, with the Tumblr blog Tebowing.com publishing dozens of examples of others doing their own versions of the one-knee Hail Mary. They’re Tebowing in dance class. Babies are Tebowing. There is even a photo of a soldier in Afghanistan getting his Tebow on.

(Religion nerd’s note: Tebow is an evangelical Christian and thus would be unlikely endorse the notion of modern day saints or pray the Hail Mary.)

To recap.

Tebow, the son of missionaries, has never been private with his Christian faith, famously writing Scripture verses on his eye black during college football games at the University of Florida. Those verses would quickly become trending terms on Twitter and Google. With his recent start and win over the Miami Dolphins last week, the professional league newbie is bringing his marriage of faith and football to new prominence. Fans are picking up on his spirituality (Tebow thanked God during an interview after his team’s win Sunday), and sportswriters are awash in religious jargon describing him.

Love Tebow, but honestly, Jesus was not high on conspicuous public prayer. See Matt. 6: 5-7

Great article! Tim Tebow sends a wonderful and powerful message about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and His message of Salvation.
