For a short time on Twitter last week (all time is short in digital world), the No. 1 trending topic was “No God.” Atheist Twitterers were thrilled: “Please understand that atheists have been trying for months to get an atheist related topic to trend and this one was gifted to us,” de-conversion.com noted.
The gift was from Run-D.M.C. co-founder Joseph Simmons, who tweets @RevRunWisdom. Last Tuesday at 6:47 a.m., Simmons tweeted a common Christian ministry phrase: “Know God… Know Peace. No God.. No Peace!” @RevRunWisdom has nearly 400,000 followers and many of them started re-tweeting the phrase. The deluge turned “No God” into Twitter’s No. 1 hit.
That set off a tug-of-tweets between the phrases “No God” and “Know God.” Perhaps that battle caused “No God” to fall from the grace of the Twitter Top 10. Or perhaps it was something more sinister. Some claim Twitter combined the two competing phrases to water-down the rankings. “Twitter a free speech eating monster & pusher of spam is here to regulate you. 140 characters of agenda,” @TonyVenom tweeted.
Tweet Jesus. Is nothing sacred?
