What to Expect

What are services like?
The Episcopal Church worships in the “liturgical style,” which means all Episcopal churches follow a relatively common order of service. During our services, we sit to listen to the sacred scriptures of the Bible, we stand (as we are able) to proclaim our faith through prayers and songs, and we sit, kneel or stand (as we are able) to lift up prayers to God. This is why we may say that our worship is very active. We are participants in worship; we are not passive onlookers. Our services include an opening procession, singing, Bible readings, prayers for ourselves and others, time for meditation, a sermon or pastoral message, and Communion (Holy Eucharist) where we share bread and wine in remembrance of Jesus Christ and the Last Supper. All people are welcome to approach the front of the church during the Communion portion of the service. Anyone who has been baptized (in any tradition) is invited to share in the bread and wine. Unbaptized persons are welcome to come forward for a special blessing. We have most of the service printed out in a bulletin (booklet) so that each person can follow along easily.

What is the community like?
We are a family-sized church, meaning we are a relatively small community. One of our strengths is hospitality, which means we are very welcoming. We love newcomers! Yet we don't hover over visitors. We recognize that some visitors like to quietly attend and prefer not to be barraged with questions. You will find our church open, and very friendly.

What if I'm not a Christian?
People of all backgrounds are welcome at St. Alban's. We are all on a journey, and it makes us happy to meet people who are questioning, loving their neighbors, and who want to know God.
