First Christian Church

About Us

Disciples of Christ serving Eastern NC and the world since 1854

First Christian Church does not invite you to come to church. We invite you to BE the church. We welcome all to join our mission to be the embodiment of Christ in a dark and broken world. We gather together weekly on the corner of Church and Main Streets in Farmville, North Carolina, but we are a church that is on the move sacrificially serving and loving others in our communities, throughout our region, and around the world.

Some churches may ask you to search their website for ways the church can serve you. We ask you to search our site for ways you can help us serve others. Some churches promote programs that benefit your life. We share opportunities for you to give your life away.

What to Expect

What are services like?
We believe the worship of God is so important that it should not be entered into casually or haphazardly, but always prayerfully with awe and reverence. Meaningful worship services follow the liturgical Church calendar and Holy Communion is observed weekly. The services begin each Sunday at 11:00 am and conclude approximately at Noon. Sermon manuscripts can be found on the pastor’s blog: www.jarrettbanks.wordpress.com

What is the community like?
Very friendly and welcoming, diverse, open and affirming.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Of all of the human organizations on this fragmented planet, we believe the church should be a place where all people are welcomed to join a community of grace, love and forgiveness. Without fear of being judged, condemned, bullied, and ridiculed, all people should feel welcomed to come as they are and honestly and openly confess their sinfulness and brokenness. And receive grace. Receive love. Receive forgiveness and salvation. And then be encouraged to use their gifts and talents to share it with others. Therefore, First Christian Church is an open and affirming congregation committed to being a people of grace and welcome to all God’s children though differing in race, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, nationality, ethnicity, marital status, physical or mental ability, political stance or theological perspective. When we say “we welcome all to worship and serve with us,” “all” means all.
