Denbigh Church of Christ

About Us

God's Family Under the Cross

The Church is God’s spiritual family made up of all those who have chosen to place their trust in Jesus and who are His followers or disciples. The Church is not a building or one particular group of believers; to belong to the Church is to belong to Jesus Himself. God’s will is for his people to live in fellowship with a local church family, to assemble regularly to worship together, to use their various gifts to serve Him together, to love and encourage one another, and to work together to share the message of God’s grace with the world. As the members of His Church love one another and maintain unity of purpose and relationship, the world around us will recognize that we belong to Jesus. Matthew 16:15-18; John 17:20-23; John 13:34,35; Acts 2:42-47; 1 Corinthians 12:12-27; Ephesians 1:22,23; Ephesians 2:19-22; Ephesians 4:11-16; 1 Peter 2:4-10

What to Expect

What are services like?
First off, please do not stress over what everyone will be wearing. We adhere to no specific dress code. Some come dressed up and some come dressed in shorts and tee-shirts. We would love to have you as our guest at any of our worship services. We understand that visiting a new church can be a somewhat strange and threatening experience (though we try not to bite). So what can you expect if you visit at Denbigh? Seating: There are no “reserved seats.” Feel free to sit anywhere you wish. Singing: Our singing is a cappella (without instrumental accompaniment) and congregational (we don’t have a choir). We make both of these choices because we want to encourage everyone to participate fully in the praise. We sing a blend of older hymns and newer praise songs. Our singing is led by a worship leader and praise team that aid the congregational in singing four-part harmony. Song lyrics are projected on a screen, and copies of the music we are singing is also printed and available at the back of the auditorium. Lord’s Supper: The Lord’s Supper will always be part of our Sunday morning worship assembly. In this communion, we remember Jesus and emphasize the central place of His cross in our faith. Since the cross is at the center of who we are, we partake of the communion each and every Sunday. Often the comments before communion will be as important to the service as is sermon. Offering: The work of the church here is supported by the free-will offerings of the members. As our guest, you are not expected to make a donation. We raise no money through other activities outside our Sunday giving. (With the exception of our Youth Group who will occasionally raise money for youth trips and for benevolent causes like Relay for Life.) Preaching: The sermon will be 25-30 minutes long, and it will be centered in Scripture. If our study raises any questions, please feel free to ask someone after services. After the sermon, an invitation will be offered for those with a prayer request or a desire to be baptized. At this time, we will stand and sing a song. Do not feel uncomfortable; you will not be singled out in any way. Children’s Church: During our morning assembly, children ages 2-5 will be dismissed to a class for a special lesson. An attended nursery is also provided during the morning assembly. Meet-and-Greet: At some point in the service we will ask everyone to stand and greet the people around them. This is one way we try to emphasize that worship, while to God, also involves reaching out to others as well. Feel free to stop in an visit us anytime you have opportunity. We think you will be glad that you did. We invite you to become a part of our Christian family of God… under the Cross.

What is the community like?
We, at Denbigh are a friendly loving diverse group of believers and as such we believe you would be welcomed in a friendly loving way. Our congregation is made up of many non-professional and professional workers each. Many are military or work for the D.O.D. while others work for the shipyard or the public schools or in the medical field.

What if I'm not a Christian?
Awesome, we would love to get to know you and if you are interested would love to introduce you to Jesus as Lord and Savior.
